Debt dispute leads to arson: man brings Molotov cocktail to rented room and sets it on fire.
On March 14th, the Investigation Police Department of Dong Nai province temporarily detained two suspects, Nguyen Phi Long (born in 2000) and Doan Anh Phuc (born in 2005), both residing in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai province, to investigate and clarify their actions of threatening to kill someone.
Due to a conflict with Tran Van Khiem (born in 1990, residing in Long Binh ward, Bien Hoa city) over debt and being insulted by Khiem, on the morning of March 11, Long invited Phuc to Khiem's residence to resolve the conflict.
Before leaving, they bought 20,000 dong worth of gasoline at a small gas station in Long Binh ward and put it in a small plastic bag. Upon arriving, seeing Khiem's rented room door closed, Phuc used a padlock (prepared beforehand by Long) to pry open the door and poured the gasoline inside as instructed by Long, then both quickly fled.
Upon discovering the incident, Mr. Khiem and his wife tried to open the door to escape but the lock was engaged from the outside, so they called an acquaintance to open the door and then went to the police station to report the incident.
During the investigation, the Long Binh Ward Police arrested Long and Phuc. Through questioning, the two suspects admitted to their crimes.
Following the incident, the Long Binh Ward Police handed over the suspects to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Dong Nai Provincial Police for further investigation according to their jurisdiction.
