After returning home from drinking, Mrs. Huyen and her husband had an argument. During the argument, her husband suddenly poured gasoline on her and set her on fire.

On the morning of August 4th, Lieutenant Colonel Cao Tien Phu, Head of the Ea Sup District Police, Dak Lak province, stated that the unit had dispatched investigators to gather evidence to investigate and clarify the case of a husband dousing his wife with gasoline and setting her on fire, which recently occurred in the district.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Cao Tien Phu, the unit has not yet received a complaint from the victim, but based on reports from the public and considering the serious nature of the incident, the Police Investigation Agency has launched an investigation. "Currently, the district police have sent investigators to the hospital to take statements from the victim, and have also dispatched officers to the area to verify the facts and quickly clarify the cause of the incident," Lieutenant Colonel Cao Tien Phu added.

Ms. Huyen suffered burns to 40% of her body, classified as third-degree burns.

According to the information, the victim in this case is Ms. Trieu Thi Huyen (born in 1975), temporarily residing in Sub-district 296, Cu M'lan commune, Ea Sup district.

At the hospital, Ms. Huyen is receiving intensive treatment for burns on her chest, abdomen, thighs, and face, covering more than 40% of her body and classified as third-degree burns. The suspect who doused Ms. Huyen with gasoline and set her on fire is Mr. Ly Van Duong (born in 1981), residing in Sub-district 296, Cu M'lan commune, Ms. Huyen's husband.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Huyen said that on the morning of August 1st, she and Mr. Ly Van Duong prepared their tools to go work in the fields. Before that, Mr. Duong had bought 5 liters of gasoline and divided it into two cans (each containing 2.5 liters), then mixed in engine oil to power the grass cutting machine.

While the couple were preparing their belongings to go to the fields, a neighbor came to invite them out for drinks, so they both left work and went drinking. “There were six people at the drinking party, but we drank 1.5 liters of liquor and two crates of beer, so everyone was tipsy. After drinking, my husband, Duong, and I went home. When we reached the porch, I sat down to rest and cool off, but Duong started cursing at me for no reason. When I tried to retort, he flew into a rage and kept cursing at me,” Mrs. Huyen said.

Ms. Huyen is currently receiving intensive treatment at the hospital.

According to Ms. Huyen, while the two were arguing, Mr. Duong suddenly rushed in, grabbed her hair, and punched her several times in the face, causing her to become disoriented.

“Then he suddenly took out a can of gasoline, poured it over me, and lit it on fire. The fire suddenly erupted, and I didn't have time to react. Fortunately, his mother noticed what was happening and used a wet blanket to put out the fire before taking me to the hospital, which saved my life,” Mrs. Huyen recalled.

Reportedly, Mr. Duong and Ms. Huyen have been living together as husband and wife for six years without registering their marriage. They have a five-year-old daughter together. According to Ms. Huyen, this is not the first time her husband has beaten her almost to death.

The case is currently being investigated by the Ea Súp District Police.
