Husband stabs wife to death over money dispute, receives 12-year prison sentence.
A man in Nghe An province fatally stabbed his wife with a knife simply because of an argument over household expenses.
On February 25th, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first-instance trial of defendant Nguyen Xuan Sau (born in 1970), residing in Dong Thanh commune, Nghe An province, on charges of "Murder" and "Unauthorized use of military weapons"
According to the indictment, on the evening of September 10, 2025, Six and his wife, Vo Thi Ng. (born in 1972), had an argument over money and family expenses. During the altercation, Mrs. Ng. used an electric fan to hit her husband in the face, head, and hands.
Hearing the argument, the daughter-in-law, who lived nearby, ran over to intervene. Just as the son returned home, he heard his mother-in-law crying for help again. Running over, he saw his father-in-law holding a knife and his mother-in-law struggling with him, so he managed to snatch the weapon away in time.
However, the conflict didn't stop there. The couple continued to fight with a broom. After the daughter-in-law left, Sau went to the kitchen to get a large knife. At the same time, Mrs. Ng. grabbed a rice drying tool and swung it at her husband, but missed.
Immediately afterwards, Sau stabbed his wife twice in the chest. Mrs. Ng. ran outside screaming for help before collapsing on the floor. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim died from circulatory and acute respiratory failure.
In court, the defendant admitted to the act, claiming it was due to anger and loss of control during a prolonged family conflict. The panel of judges noted several mitigating circumstances, such as surrendering to the authorities, making a sincere confession, partially compensating for the consequences; committing the crime while in a state of emotional distress; and having a family with a history of service to the revolution.
After a comprehensive review of the case, the court sentenced Nguyen Xuan Sau to 9 years in prison for "murder" and 3 years in prison for "illegally using military weapons," for a combined sentence of 12 years.
