Mazda CX-5 price reduction of 40 million VND - adding pressure on CR-V in Vietnam.
While there was no price reduction during the July update, the crossover saw a price drop of 28-40 million VND per version in August.
In Vietnam, the Mazda CX-5 comes in three versions with 2-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Since the special consumption tax rate remained unchanged from July 1st, Truong Hai (the distributor) maintained the same prices as before. However, after a month, the Vietnamese market giant adjusted prices by reducing them and offering various promotions.

The lowest-priced CX-5 2.0 2WD version has been reduced by 40 million VND to 999 million VND, the 2.5 2WD version by 34 million VND to 1,035 million VND, and the highest-priced 2.5 AWD version by 28 million VND to 1,070 million VND.
Meanwhile, the CX-5's biggest rival, the Honda CR-V, comes in two versions, 2.0 and 2.4, priced at 1.008 million and 1.158 million VND respectively. Based solely on the listed price, the top-of-the-line CX-5 is now about 90 million VND cheaper than the CR-V.
Furthermore, Truong Hai is also offering a promotion of 45 million VND per vehicle for the two lower-end versions, the 2.0 2WD and 2.5 2WD, in August. Therefore, customers can save up to 95 million VND compared to those who purchased the CX-5 in July.
Discounts and special offers have been a traditional strategy for Truong Hai in recent years for products from all three brands: Mazda, Kia, and Peugeot. This strategy has contributed significantly to strong sales growth recently. However, customers who bought cars earlier may feel disadvantaged compared to those who bought later.
The CX-5 has emerged as the best-selling crossover in its segment in the Vietnamese market. Considering only sales from VAMA members, in the first six months of 2016, Truong Hai sold 3,859 CX-5s to customers, while Honda sold 1,994 CR-Vs.
