Mazda CX-9 2017: An affordable 7-seater

The CX-9 is Mazda's largest family crossover, offering seven seats arranged in three rows. The starting price is $32,000.

Despite being the brand's largest crossover model, the CX-9 is only equipped with a 2.5-liter Skyactiv 4-cylinder engine, producing a maximum power of 250 horsepower. This figure is quite modest compared to the V6 engines on competing models such as the Honda Pilot or Ford Explorer. This is a common complaint from customers regarding the CX-9.

However, the smaller-displacement engine is fuel-efficient, consuming only 12.3 liters of fuel per 100 km. Along with the CX-3 and CX-5, the CX-9 completes the final piece in Mazda's crossover segment.

The CX-9 has a relatively affordable price, starting at just $32,000 for the standard version. With all options, the price increases to $45,000.

In terms of design, the CX-9 boasts very sharp lines. It could be said that Mazda has some of the most beautiful mid-size car designs on the market. Another plus point in terms of design is the playful design language, clearly evident in the grille, which resembles a smiling face.

While the 2.5-liter Skyactiv engine might be a drawback, the 6-speed transmission handles acceleration quite well despite the vehicle's large size. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 7 seconds, which isn't exceptionally fast, but not too slow either for this large crossover.

Inside the cabin, passengers can comfortably enjoy the journey on heated leather seats and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. The third row is only suitable for children or small adults as the space behind it is quite cramped. If you fold down the third row and use it for luggage, you can fit quite a lot of things.

The Mazda CX-9 is also equipped with a number of safety features such as a blind spot monitoring system and intelligent emergency braking warning.

In summary, the Mazda CX-9 is one of the best crossovers under $50,000 to buy. Although Mazda wasn't previously considered a worthy competitor to Honda or Toyota, the CX-9 has now become a real force to be reckoned with.
