Mazda has announced a recall of nearly 174,000 vehicles due to a defect in the driver's seat height adjustment mechanism. The recall affects models assembled in Japan, such as the 2011 Mazda 2 and Mazda 3.

Mazda Japan has issued a recall notice for 173,859 vehicles, specifically the 2011 Mazda 2, 2010-2011 Mazda 3, and 2010-2011 Mazdaspeed 3. All three recalled models were assembled in Japan between October 7, 2008, and September 30, 2010.

Mazda is recalling nearly 174,000 vehicles due to a defect in the seats.

The cause of this problem is related to a defect in some parts of the car's seats. Specifically, the seat height adjustment linkages were not strong enough, causing cracks during use and the adjustment pins to detach from the seat frame.

If used continuously for a long period of time, this part may break, leading to the seat tilting suddenly, making it impossible for the driver to maintain a proper driving position, potentially causing dangerous accidents while driving.

Previously, Mazda Japan received feedback from customers about this defect around the end of February. Currently, the company has sent notifications to customers whose vehicles are affected, urging them to bring their cars to dealerships for inspection and repair.

If the vehicles show no signs of cracking, dealerships will add reinforcement and increase the number of studs to enhance the durability of the seat frame.
