Hau was born into a farming family in Hong Phong hamlet, Luu Son commune. His parents worked hard all year round in the fields. Understanding their parents' hardships, Hau's three siblings are all very obedient and good at studying. Hau's eldest brother, Nguyen Van Duc, a student in class 10T1, Do Luong I High School, is always at the top of his class in terms of academic achievement. For many years in a row, he has been an excellent student in the district. His younger brother, Nguyen Van Loc, a student in class 4A, Luu Son Primary School, is also often praised for his learning spirit.

In June 2016, Hau often had high fevers, and his family took him to the doctor and found out he had leukemia. Since he found out he was sick, Hau has been very sad. However, he was afraid that he would be a burden to his mother, so he always tried to study. After the first treatment, Hau confided to his mother: "When I came back from treatment, my hair fell out. Remember to buy me a wig so I can go to school so that when I grow up, I can work and support my parents."

Mr. Nguyen Minh Binh - Vice Principal of Doi Cung Secondary School said: "Hau is a very good and studious student. When we heard that he was sick, everyone felt sorry for him. Teachers and friends at the school raised 10 million VND for his treatment."

Every 20 days after returning home, Hau has to go to Hanoi for a month of treatment. The pain torments her and makes her parents feel heartbroken. After each treatment, her health gets worse. However, she still longs to go to school with her friends. She needs kind hearts to help her have the motivation to fight the disease so that she can go to school again and fulfill her dream.
