The holiday season is approaching, and with it comes the worry of gaining weight for many people. Here are some tips to help you eat healthily during the holiday season.

When eating party
When attending a dinner or buffet, first look at all the dishes and choose one or two of your favorites and eat a moderate amount. For the rest of the meal, eat vegetables, fruits or lean meats.
When eating out, decide in advance whether you want an appetizer, an alcoholic beverage, or a dessert. You should only have one of the three, and not all three.
Never go to a party hungry. If the dinner party is later than your normal dinner time, have a light snack before the party to avoid overeating at the party.
Drink a glass of water after every glass of wine, eggnog or other alcoholic beverage.
Don't skip meals
During the holidays, many people think that skipping breakfast or lunch will help them lose weight. This will help them gain less weight. In fact, this is a misconception. When you skip a meal, you are more likely to eat twice as much at the next meal.
Eating breakfast before attending a party or event is crucial, because if you don't eat within a few hours of waking up, your body's metabolism won't be able to start and your body will try to store fat for energy as a survival mechanism.
Exercise a lot
Exercise is a great way to help you feel healthier and happier. If the weather is too cold for you to exercise outside, you can try indoor sports activities, such as working out at the gym, doing yoga, or playing basketball or table tennis indoors.
Instead of focusing on losing weight, try to maintain a normal weight and not gain extra pounds during the holidays.
Creating new traditions
If most of your family’s traditional activities involve eating, try to change them up a bit. You can make your own home decorations, go for a walk, etc.
You can also improve your family recipes to make them healthier. For example, instead of using flour, you can use cereal; instead of frying oil and animal fat, you can eat applesauce or yogurt.
At family reunions, try to see people you don't see often; talk more and eat less.
