Most of us have probably experienced the situation where our motorbike suddenly runs out of gas while we're riding and we have to walk. If you plan ahead and know a few of the tips below, you won't have to face such a stressful situation again.

Motorcycles typically have small fuel tanks, and many models don't even have a fuel gauge. Therefore, without foresight, many people find themselves running out of gas in the middle of the road.

The best approach is to take the time to plan your route to identify the locations of gas stations and anticipate areas where you're most likely to run out of gas. Then, buy a few small water bottles with secure caps, drink them, fill them with gasoline, and carry them with you. If you run out of gas along the way, you can use the fuel from these bottles to travel a considerable distance, but remember to discard them after refueling.

The second method is to fill the tank completely. Many cars have fuel tanks with rather unique shapes. When refueling, fill the tank completely and then wait 30 seconds. You will see the fuel level begin to decrease as air starts to be pushed out. Add more fuel until the tank is full again, and you will have a completely full tank.

If the fuel gauge shows empty and the car starts to jerk, drive as economically as possible. Close the choke, move at a moderate speed, avoid sudden acceleration and braking, and keep the engine RPM as low as possible.

You should also remember that a small amount of gasoline might still be stuck in the crevices of the tank. What you need to do now is put down the kickstand and tilt the bike in every direction possible. After a while, try starting the engine. If the bike starts, drive as economically as possible and hope that you can reach the next fuel station.

For long journeys, preparing extra fuel or a fuel siphon is never a bad idea.

Additionally, keep a small, clear plastic tube, about 1 meter long and coiled, in your car's trunk. You'll need it to siphon fuel from other vehicles. If you run out of gas on a long journey, pull out the prepared tube. Wave down another motorcyclist and ask them for some gasoline.

Position the car that's supplying the gas higher than your car. Then, open the fuel tank caps on both cars. Insert one end of the hose into the car supplying the gas and suck from the other end with your mouth. Be careful not to let the gas get into your mouth; this is why you need a clear hose. Then, insert the other end into your car's fuel tank and let the gas flow in. This is a last resort, however, imagine you're on a deserted road far from a gas station – this method could be a lifesaver.
