Mercedes-AMG R50 - the new masterpiece about to be launched.
The new supercar, designed to compete with the McLaren P1, will debut at the Paris Auto Show at the end of September.
The German automaker and its high-performance division AMG are preparing to introduce a new supercar to compete with Aston Martin's AM-RB 001 and Red Bull Racing's racing team.
According to Automobile, the project, named R50, bridges the gap between a commercial supercar and a Le Mans race car. The car's dry weight is 1,315 kg, which is lighter than the McLaren P1 (1,490 kg), LaFerrari (1,588 kg), or Porsche 918 Spyder (1,633 kg).

The new supercar's engine will be one of two types: a 1.6-liter V6 turbocharged hybrid developed for Formula 1 racing or AMG's 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Both deliver up to 1,000 horsepower.
Thanks to its powerful engine and low weight, the R50 can accelerate from 0-96 km/h in approximately 2 seconds before reaching a top speed of 354 km/h. The chassis is reinforced by Lotus to increase rigidity and maintain balance when cornering at high speeds.
As of now, no images of the R50 have been revealed. The supercar features an aerodynamic design, adaptive suspension, a two-seater cabin with the driver and passenger seated in front of the dashboard like a Grand Prix race car, no instrument panel but only LED display screens and head-up display technology.
Mercedes has produced many iconic supercars throughout its history, such as the Vision Gran Turismo, AMG GT R, SLR McLaren, CLK GTR, C11 and C12 concepts, and the Silver Arrow that appeared at the LA Design Challenge 2011 (USA).
The German automaker plans to unveil the R50 at the Paris Auto Show at the end of September. Production will range from 25 to 250 units.
