Mercedes-AMG R50 - new super product about to launch
The new supercar, which will compete with the McLaren P1, will debut at the Paris Auto Show at the end of September.
German carmaker and high-performance division AMG is preparing to introduce a new supercar to compete with Aston Martin's AM-RB 001 and Red Bull Racing team.
According to Automobile, the project, called R50, bridges the gap between a commercial supercar and a Le Mans race car. The dry weight of the car is 1,315 kg, which is lighter than the McLaren P1 (1,490 kg) and LaFerrari (1,588 kg) or Porsche 918 Spyder (1,633 kg).

The new supercar's engine will be either a 1.6-liter V6 turbo hybrid developed for F1 racing or a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo from AMG. Both will produce up to 1,000 horsepower.
Thanks to its power and low weight, the R50 can accelerate from 0-96 km/h in around 2 seconds before reaching a top speed of 354 km/h. The chassis was reinforced by Lotus to increase rigidity and cornering stability at high speeds.
Up to now, the R50 has not been revealed in pictures. The supercar has an aerodynamic design, adaptive shock absorbers, a two-seat cabin with the driver and passenger sitting in front of the dashboard like a grad prix racing car, no dashboard but only an LED parameter screen and head-up display technology.
Mercedes has produced many famous supercar models in its history such as Vision Gran Turismo, AMG GT R, SLR McLaren, CLK GTR, C11 and C12 concept or the Silver Arrow that appeared at LA Design Challenge 2011 (USA).
The German automaker plans to introduce the R50 at the Paris Auto Show at the end of September. Production will be 25-250 units.
