Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic: The future of all-electric luxury cars.
Mercedes-Benz's Vision Iconic concept car combines classic design heritage with Level 4 autonomous driving technology and neural AI, shaping a new era for luxury vehicles.
At Shanghai Fashion Week, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision Iconic, a concept car that not only outlines the future of electric vehicles but also makes a statement about the intersection of century-old heritage and groundbreaking technology. Inspired by legendary grand tourers, the Vision Iconic offers a bold vision of a luxurious, intelligent, and completely zero-emission vehicle.
Design heritage blended with photovoltaic technology.
The Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic is a tribute to the past, evident in its lines reminiscent of classic models such as the W 108, W 111, or 600 Pullman. Its elongated, rounded shape embodies the style of a classic sedan, but is reinterpreted using modern design language.

The front of the car is distinguished by its three-pointed star-shaped headlight cluster, similar to the design language of the new generation CLA, combined with the illuminated grille characteristic of the EQ electric vehicle line. However, the overall shape of the grille retains a traditional look, creating a subtle balance between the past and the future. The rear of the car curves smoothly down towards the trunk, accompanied by a slender LED taillight strip and a Mercedes-Benz logo inspired by the legendary 300 SL.
One of the most outstanding technologies on the Vision Iconic is the ultra-thin photovoltaic coating integrated directly onto the vehicle's surface. This technology allows for the generation of clean energy without the need for silicon or rare earth elements, making recycling easier. With a claimed efficiency of up to 20%, this system can provide additional energy for approximately 12,000 km of driving per year under ideal conditions.

Interior space: A mobile living room with a strong Art Deco feel.
Stepping inside, Vision Iconic welcomes passengers with a space that can be described as a "mobile living room" of the future. The interior is covered in dark blue velvet, combined with gleaming metal accents, creating a luxurious and cozy atmosphere.

A special highlight is the floor, crafted using straw marquetry – a high-end decorative art from the 17th century that was revived in the 1920s with a fan-shaped pattern reminiscent of Art Deco. The center console is a floating glass unit called "Zeppelin," and when the door opens, the instrument cluster activates with an animated effect mimicking a high-end Swiss chronograph watch.

Autonomous driving technology and neural artificial intelligence
The Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic is not just a beautiful car, but also a technological "laboratory." The vehicle is equipped with advanced Level 2 autonomous driving functionality, optimized for urban environments and aiming for Level 4 in the future. When activated under legally permissible conditions, this system allows the driver to completely relax and enjoy the interior space.
To realize this vision, the vehicle is equipped with a retractable lidar sensor array at the front. More importantly, Vision Iconic integrates neuromorphic computing technology, an artificial intelligence system that mimics the workings of the human brain. This technology helps the autonomous system recognize objects and traffic signs 10 times more effectively than current systems, especially in bad weather conditions, while saving up to 90% of energy consumption.
Positioning and future vision
As a concept car, the Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic was not produced commercially. Instead, it served as a manifesto, showcasing the brand's direction in the era of electrification and autonomy. This model demonstrates that Mercedes-Benz is not only focused on replacing internal combustion engines with electric ones, but also on redefining the luxury experience, harmoniously combining human elements, brand heritage, and cutting-edge technology.
Improvements in materials, solar energy technology, and especially the neural artificial intelligence in Vision Iconic could be applied to Mercedes-Benz's commercial vehicles in the coming years, setting a new standard for luxury, safety, and sustainability.
