Messi scores a brace as Barca win big in La Liga opening round.

On an unlucky start to the day, Barca missed several chances in front of Alaves' goal. Lionel Messi had a volley that went wide of the post in the opening minutes, before lofting a pass to Jordi Alba whose shot also went wide.

Barca's other two forwards also failed to make much of an impact in the first half. Dembele had a one-on-one shot that hit goalkeeper Pacheco and bounced away, while Luis Suarez chipped the ball carelessly in another one-on-one situation.

Not only were Barca inaccurate in open play, but they also lacked luck in set pieces. Midway through the first half, Messi had a free-kick that hit the crossbar.

While Barca dominated possession, Alaves were often forced to play defensively and rely on counter-attacks. The visitors also created a few attacking opportunities, but they were all thwarted by goalkeeper Ter Stegen and the defense.

Having failed to score in the first half, Barca were forced to bring Philippe Coutinho on at the start of the second half. With the Brazilian creative midfielder in the lineup, the home team's attack became more effective and dangerous.

Under pressure from Barca, Alaves' numerous defenders finally made a mistake. In the 64th minute, Messi took a free kick while the opposing wall jumped up, causing the ball to fly low and straight into the net.

The opening goal was truly crucial to the outcome of the match. After conceding, Alaves were forced to play more aggressively and left more space. Thanks to the increased confidence after the first goal, Barca's attack became even more effective.

In the 83rd minute, Coutinho shone brightly, scoring to double the lead. The Brazilian midfielder dribbled the ball from the left wing into the middle of the penalty area and beat goalkeeper Pacheco with a powerful shot.

Not stopping there, Barca continued to dominate and scored a third goal in the second minute of added time. Messi was the scorer, receiving the ball from a lofted pass by Luis Suarez and sealing the victory with a shot into the near corner.

Winning 3-0, Barca had a successful opening match as desired. Another highlight was that last season's key players quickly regained their form and provided a solid foundation for new signings like Arthur, Vidal, Malcom, and Lenglet.
