Microsoft confirms Windows 11 Update bug affects gamers and computer performance
Microsoft has just admitted that Windows 11 24H2 has problems affecting gaming performance like Fortnite, CS:GO and user experience with blue screen errors, taskbar freezes
Patch KB5062660 has been released to fix and improve performance and will be available in the August 2025 Patch Tuesday update.
Windows 11 24H2 Update: More Unexpected Issues After Required Patches
While Windows 11 24H2 is supposed to offer better performance than previous versions, the rollout hasn't been exactly smooth. Many users have encountered errors like the Blue Screen of Death immediately after installation, and other issues have continued to surface with subsequent updates.

Users have reported Windows 11 Update installation errors with error codes 0x800f0922, 0x80070002, 0x80070306, or 0x800f0991. Games like Fortnite have also caused random reboots, and some users have reported the taskbar freezing when the computer resumes from sleep mode.
Recent updates also cause false Event 2042 "Config Read Failed" warnings in the Windows Firewall Event Viewer, and cause cursor lag when using Alt+Tab in games.
Windows 11 gaming performance affected after May 2025 update
Notably, after Microsoft released the May 2025 updates, Windows Latest observed some computers experiencing slower performance, including reduced frame rates (FPS) in games like Fortnite and CS:GO.

Initially, it was thought that the issue might be related to Nvidia's GeForce drivers, which often have bugs in new releases. However, the real cause was determined to be Microsoft's recent monthly cumulative updates. Some users also reported that their computers were "slower" after the June 2025 update.
Microsoft Fixes Windows 11 Stability Issues 24H2
Microsoft has finally identified the root cause of stability issues on Windows 11 24H2. In a support document update for Windows 11 KB5062660, an optional update released on July 22, 2025, Microsoft confirmed that it has fixed the performance issues.

"This Windows 11 Update addresses an issue observed in rare cases after installing the May 2025 security update and subsequent updates, causing stability issues for devices," Microsoft notes in a document spotted by Windows Latest.
While Microsoft has not released details on what is causing the performance issues, affected users may experience unresponsive devices or crashes in certain cases.
For example, when working in Word and switching between applications or locking the computer, Word may become unresponsive as the user continues to use it. Similarly, when playing Fortnite and switching between desktops using the Start button or Alt-Tab, the system may become unresponsive or run slower than usual.
"Some devices have become unresponsive and stopped working in specific situations," Microsoft added.
The Windows 11 KB5062660 update also brings a number of new features, including Recall in Europe. In tests, Windows Latest found that the Home tab of File Explorer now loads significantly faster, taking around 2-3 seconds compared to over 10 seconds in older builds.
Microsoft is testing a fix for stability issues in Windows 11 KB5062660. This is a optional release, which means the patch won't be downloaded automatically.
Users will receive these fixes when Microsoft releases the August 2025 Patch Tuesday update on August 12, 2025.
