Microsoft confirms Windows 11 Update bugs affect gamers and computer performance.
Microsoft has just admitted that Windows 11 24H2 is experiencing issues affecting gaming performance, particularly for games like Fortnite and CS:GO, and user experience, including blue screen errors and taskbar crashes.
Patch KB5062660 has been released to fix and improve performance and will be included in the August 2025 Patch Tuesday update.
Windows 11 24H2 Update: Many Unexpected Issues After Mandatory Patches
Although Windows 11 24H2 was touted as having better performance than previous versions, the rollout wasn't entirely smooth. Many users encountered errors such as the Blue Screen of Death shortly after installation, and other issues continued to appear with subsequent updates.

Users have reported Windows 11 Update installation errors with error codes 0x800f0922, 0x80070002, 0x80070306, or 0x800f0991. Additionally, games like Fortnite have caused random computer restarts, and some users have reported the taskbar freezing when the computer wakes from sleep mode.
Recent updates have also caused false Event 2042 "Config Read Failed" warnings in the Windows Firewall Event Viewer, and resulted in cursor lag when using Alt+Tab in games.
Windows 11 gaming performance will be affected after the May 2025 update.
Specifically, after Microsoft released the May 2025 updates, Windows Latest observed that some computers experienced slower performance, including reduced frame rates (FPS) in games like Fortnite and CS:GO.

Initially, this issue was thought to be related to Nvidia's GeForce drivers, as the company often has bugs in its new releases. However, the real cause was identified as Microsoft's recent monthly cumulative updates. Some users also reported that their computers were "slower" after the June 2025 update.
Microsoft fixes Windows 11 stability issue 24/7
Microsoft has finally identified the root cause of the stability issues on Windows 11 24H2. In a support documentation update for Windows 11 KB5062660, an optional update released on July 22, 2025, Microsoft confirmed that it has fixed the performance issues.

"This Windows 11 update addresses an issue observed in some rare instances after installing the May 2025 security update and subsequent updates, causing device stability problems," Microsoft noted in a document discovered by Windows Latest.
Although Microsoft has not disclosed details of the cause of the performance issues, affected users may experience unresponsive devices or complete shutdowns in certain situations.
For example, when working with Word and switching between applications or locking the computer, Word may become unresponsive when the user continues to use it. Similarly, when playing Fortnite and switching back and forth between desktops using the Start button or Alt-Tab, the system may stop responding or run slower than usual.
Microsoft added: "Some devices have become unresponsive and stopped working in specific situations."
The Windows 11 KB5062660 update also brings several new features, including Recall in Europe. In tests, Windows Latest found that the File Explorer Home tab now loads significantly faster, taking only about 2-3 seconds compared to over 10 seconds in older builds.
Microsoft is testing a fix for stability issues in Windows 11 KB5062660. This is an optional release, meaning the patch will not be downloaded automatically.
Users will receive these fixes when Microsoft releases the August 2025 Patch Tuesday update on August 12, 2025.
