Wild jackfruit braves the sun to reach the lowlands, attracting buyers.
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, it's jackfruit season, and many traders in Nghe An have traveled to the mountainous regions to transport jackfruit back to the lowlands for retail sale. This product attracts many buyers.Every day, dozens of carts loaded with jackfruit come from the mountains.

These days, the jackfruit orchard of Mr. Tran Nguyen Tri's family in the mountainous commune of Quynh Thang (Quynh Luu district) is in full bloom, attracting traders from all over to buy large quantities. Currently, Mr. Tri's orchard has more than 350 native jackfruit trees, of which nearly 100 are bearing fruit.
According to Mr. Tri, jackfruit trees bear fruit around mid-spring and ripen in the summer, from June to August. For about a week now, many traders have come to buy jackfruit, with prices at the farm ranging from 10,000 to 12,000 VND/kg; on average, Mr. Tri sells about 1 to 1.5 tons of jackfruit per day, earning 1 to 1.5 million VND.
"Jackfruit is a popular fruit among locals. During harvest season, families don't need to pick and sell the fruit themselves; traders come directly to their homes to buy it. Therefore, sales are easy, and there's no worry about unsold stock," Mr. Tri said.

Currently, jackfruit is not as widely grown as in previous years because people are cutting it down to switch to other crops. Mainly households in mountainous communes such as Quynh Luu, Nghia Dan, and Quy Hop districts are still maintaining and developing the native, firm-fleshed jackfruit variety.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa from Son Hai commune (Quynh Luu district) said: "During the jackfruit season, I usually contact several households that grow a lot of jackfruit in Nghia Binh and Nghia Loc communes (Nghia Dan district) in advance to buy their produce. Every day, I buy and transport about 2-3 tons of jackfruit back to the lowlands, then distribute and sell it all within the day."
Currently, the wholesale price for retailers is 20,000 VND/kg. After passing through the middlemen, the price of jackfruit is higher, depending on the variety, such as honey jackfruit, juicy jackfruit, firm jackfruit, etc. Local jackfruit varieties are fragrant and sweet, making them popular with customers.

"Currently, firm, delicious jackfruit sold in markets costs 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, while sweet jackfruit costs 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg," said Ms. Huong, a jackfruit seller at Giat Market.
Jackfruit offers numerous benefits, including cancer prevention, improved digestion, increased energy levels, combating anemia, and enhanced bone function. Beyond its culinary nutritional value, many parts of the jackfruit tree are also used medicinally. Because of these numerous uses, jackfruit is a popular fruit.
