Mitsubishi introduces the 2018 Outlander Sport.

April 6, 2017 13:23

The launch of the new generation Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has been delayed due to the impact of Nissan's acquisition of Mitsubishi. Instead, the 2018 version, extending the current generation, will officially debut at the New York Auto Show, which opens next week.

According to the original plan, the new generation Outlander was scheduled to launch in early 2019, followed by the Sport version in 2020. However, recently, according to the website...Airport PageAccording to information from Mitsubishi's suppliers, the new Outlander model will be delayed until the end of 2019 or early 2020, while the Sport version will be delayed until at least 2021.

This change occurred because Mitsubishi was acquired by its compatriot Nissan, becoming part of the Renault-Nissan alliance. Therefore, the launch of new products needed to be restructured within the alliance to save costs and increase production efficiency.

Engineers are reportedly focusing on determining the optimal formula for sharing parts between the next-generation Outlander and the next-generation Nissan Rogue and Rogue Sport. The goal is to share the same chassis and less noticeable components to save costs while still maintaining the distinctive characteristics of each brand.

Therefore, for the time being, while the new generation is yet to be launched, the current generation Outlander Sport has had its lifespan extended, with the 2018 version set to debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show, which opens on April 12th.

And the Japanese automaker has released some information and images of this new model.
