Opening up opportunities for the development of Quỳnh Lưu's marine economy.
(Baonghean) - During his recent visit and working trip to Quynh Luu, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong requested the district to develop a clear and practical strategy for marine economic development to fully utilize the potential and advantages of a dynamic economic region.
Addressing infrastructure shortcomings
With a coastline stretching 34 km, Quỳnh Lưu boasts over 1,300 fishing vessels, including many large offshore fishing boats. However, the current infrastructure serving the fishing industry in Quỳnh Lưu is like a garment too tight for a thriving and developing body. The most pressing issue remains the lack of mooring facilities for fishermen's boats after each fishing trip.
The Lạch Quèn port serves as an anchorage for boats from the communes of Tiến Thủy, An Hòa, Quỳnh Nghĩa, Quỳnh Long, and even from other provinces like Quảng Ninh, Hải Phòng, and Đà Nẵng, sometimes reaching over 1,000 vessels. However, the port is currently experiencing siltation, only accommodating about 500 boats. Larger boats must wait for high tide to enter, causing difficulties for fishermen and significantly impacting product quality. Onshore, facilities such as fuel stations, ice shops, cold storage, and essential goods stores are also fragmented and cramped.

During his working visit to Quynh Luu district, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee instructed the district's leaders to improve the planning of infrastructure serving the fishing industry. Initially, they should focus on investing in the renovation of Lach Quen fishing port to facilitate the docking of fishing vessels. In addition, the district needs to accelerate the construction of a centralized seafood processing and fishing logistics service area at Lach Quen port, Quynh Thuan commune, with a planned area of 30 hectares and a total investment cost of 373 billion VND.
To support Quynh Luu, Mr. Tran Huu Tien - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An province, said: The relevant departments are also working together and seeking funding to help Quynh Luu accelerate the progress of the project to upgrade and renovate Lach Quen port into a type 1 fishing port.
Thus, in the near future, along with the upgrading of the Lach Quen fishing port, a large-scale fisheries logistics service area will be formed, creating a solid "support base" to help fishermen feel secure in venturing out to sea.
Along with infrastructure serving the fishing industry, Quynh Luu will also upgrade its transportation infrastructure to take advantage of its coastal tourism potential in the coastal areas of Quynh Bang and Quynh Nghia communes. Mr. Hoang Danh Lai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district, said: The district will focus on investing in the construction of roads leading to the beaches, while the system of restaurants and resorts will be developed by encouraging Quynh Luu residents to invest. Currently, a fairly well-built private resort, "Rubystar Resort Quynh Beach," has already opened.
Promoting the application of science and technology.
In addition to investing in infrastructure upgrades, during a meeting with the leaders of Quynh Luu district, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also emphasized the application of science and technology in farming and processing to enhance product value and increase people's income.

Currently, in addition to traditional aquaculture and seafood processing facilities, Quynh Luu is actively attracting investors to invest in new technologies for large-scale production and processing. A prime example is the Vietnam-Australia Shrimp Hatchery Group, which has invested in a 2-hectare shrimp hatchery in Quynh Luu, producing 2 billion shrimp larvae annually and creating jobs for 200 workers with an average income of 10 million VND per month.
Mr. Dang Quoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-Australia Shrimp Seed Group, stated: Currently, Vietnam ranks third in shrimp exports worldwide, with potential revenue of $8-10 billion per year. By 2025, Vietnam could become the world's largest shrimp seed production hub. The demand for shrimp seeds is increasing, with the North Central region alone requiring approximately 56 billion seeds per year. Taking advantage of favorable natural conditions, we have decided to invest in a high-quality shrimp seed production facility in Quynh Luu, aiming to transform Nghe An into the shrimp seed center of the North Central region. To achieve this, we must collaborate with research institutes and universities, applying scientific advancements to the production process to enhance the value of our shrimp. Building on this initial success, the company is planning to expand by an additional 8 hectares to increase production scale.
After conducting an on-site inspection, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee agreed with the company's expansion plan. The Chairman also commended the investor for investing in advanced production technologies, creating many jobs, increasing the value of local seafood and agricultural products, contributing to local economic development, and improving the lives of the people.
Besides the Vietnam-Australia Shrimp Hatchery Company, many investors in Quynh Luu have boldly invested in technology for the cultivation and processing of high-quality, high-value aquatic products, seafood, and pharmaceuticals, such as HIDUMI Pharma Green Science Joint Stock Company located in Quynh Luong commune. Currently, the company produces products such as spirulina and cordyceps, which require complex cultivation technologies. The company has partnered with the Institute of Biotechnology (Vietnam Academy of Science) for support in terms of breeding stock and production processes.

Quynh Luu needs a strategy to boost the development of its marine economy.
(Baonghean.vn) - This was the directive given by Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, at a working session with the leaders of Quynh Luu district on the afternoon of March 26th. Mr. Tran Quoc Thanh, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, stated: "The people of Quynh Luu are very dynamic. Compared to other localities in the province, Quynh Luu is always at the forefront of applying science and technology to production and business; investing heavily in the field of fishing and aquaculture, such as investing in large ships, fishing gear for offshore fishing, and investing in shrimp farming technology… Therefore, Quynh Luu is also a priority area for the Department of Science and Technology to focus on applying science and technology, such as cultivating spirulina algae (a ministerial-level project, a research cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology and Germany), a fish farming project using high-tech formulas from the US with a yield of 25 tons/ha; shrimp farming using new technology; and the production and processing of deer antlers… Mr. Thanh also noted that, with such strong development, it can be said that the field of aquaculture, fishing, and seafood processing in Quynh Luu can now be called the seafood industry."
With the synchronized upgrading of infrastructure, the potential and advantages of Quynh Luu will become a new attraction, drawing investors and creating the prerequisites and conditions for the development of the local fisheries economy in the new phase, successfully achieving the goal identified in the Resolution of the 27th District Party Congress, term 2015-2020: marine economy as a key economic sector.
