Prostitution brokerage via the Internet, Zalo… becomes popular

According to reports from 63 provinces and cities, the number of registered sex workers is currently 11,240. However, the actual number is much higher because this activity is very difficult to control due to its complexity, sophistication and disguise.

Currently, there are many new types of prostitution and activities across the country, such as prostitution brokerage via the Internet, Facebook, Zalo, etc. 80% of the owners and brokers are between the ages of 18 and 25.

Prostitutes are of many different ages and backgrounds, with the majority of them being unemployed and self-employed, accounting for more than 75%.

In cities, prostitution venues have reappeared in public areas, negatively affecting the cultural environment and social order and safety, causing public outrage. Prostitution has caused many consequences for society, the risk of spreading sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS is increasing. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lap, Director of the Department of Social Evils Prevention and Control (Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) said that in the period of 2016-2020, we will continue to research and develop a law on prostitution prevention and control to upgrade it to the Law on Prostitution Prevention and Control, with a focus on prevention; strengthen the development of policies to improve access for vulnerable groups.

Develop and pilot anti-prostitution models, such as models to help sex workers in the community and at social work centers, legal aid models; peer club models; resolutely eradicate and fight against sexual exploitation and sexual activities.../.
