(Baonghean.vn) - Nghia Dan district currently has nearly 20,000 dogs. If not fully vaccinated, they will be a threat during this year's hot season. Up to this point, over 31% of dogs in households have been vaccinated against rabies.

According to statistics, Nghia Thinh commune (Nghia Dan) currently has nearly 700 dogs. Nghia Thinh is also the commune that has had 3 deaths due to rabid dog bites.

In 2016, also in Hamlet 7 of this commune, Ms. TTL (born in 1950) was feeding her dog when the dog suddenly bit her hand. Listening to many people, she only treated it with traditional medicine and that subjectivity caused her to die a week later.

The reality of dog raising in mountainous areas, including Nghia Dan district, shows that most people have the habit of letting their dogs roam free. And dogs and cats are not fully vaccinated. Not to mention rabies, there are many cases of people having accidents and injuries caused by dogs running free on the streets.

Ms. Cao Thi Thanh - a resident of Hamlet 4, Nghia Thinh Commune said in indignation: "I was riding my bicycle on the road when I suddenly hit a dog running across, the bike wobbled for nearly ten meters before stopping. Luckily there was no car behind, otherwise I wouldn't be standing here now."

Mr. Pham Van Tan - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghia Thinh Commune (Nghia Dan) said that, in the face of the danger that rabies can cause, this year the commune organized mass vaccination for dogs in 10/10 hamlets. The expected time is from 5 - 6 days to vaccinate enough for 700 dogs.

In Nghia Dan Town, there are also up to 400 dogs, mainly raised freely, so the risk of disease outbreaks is high, especially during high temperatures, with the potential risk of rabies. Therefore, the town's veterinary staff has visited households to propagate to pet owners to properly vaccinate their pets to prevent the risk of rabies. Up to now, nearly 100% of dog-raising households in the town have vaccinated their dogs against rabies./.
