On the morning of November 8, Phu Nhuan District Police, Ho Chi Minh City, announced that they were temporarily detaining Tran Van Thien (47 years old, residing in Phu Nhuan District) to investigate the act of property theft.

According to initial information, at 8:00 a.m. on November 6, Ms. LHPT (20 years old, living in Phu Nhuan district) went to the Social Order Administrative Police Team of Phu Nhuan District Police to make a citizen identification card.

While waiting for the procedure, Ms. T. left a mobile phone (worth more than 2 million VND) on a chair in the reception room of the Social Order Administrative Police Team of Phu Nhuan District Police.

About 5 minutes later, Ms. T. discovered that her phone had been stolen and reported it to the police.

The police quickly extracted security cameras and discovered that Tran Van Thien had suspicious signs, so they invited Thien to the ward police station to work.

At the ward police station, Thien confessed to stealing Ms. T's phone. In his statement to the police, Thien said that he went to Phu Nhuan District Police to do paperwork. While waiting, he saw Ms. T's phone on the chair, so he got greedy and decided to steal it.

The ward police prepared a file to transfer Thien and related evidence to the Criminal Police Team of Phu Nhuan District Police for further handling according to their authority.

Through investigation and collection of evidence, the Phu Nhuan District Police Investigation Agency issued a decision to urgently arrest Thien for theft of property.

According to Phu Nhuan District Police, Thien has a previous conviction for theft and has just been released from prison.
