From heart surgeries costing hundreds of millions of dong to scholarships, bicycles, and simple gifts given directly to disadvantaged children… The 2026 Action Month for Children in Nghe An has demonstrated the power of collaboration between the Children's Protection Fund, the health sector, businesses, and philanthropists. Behind the numbers are touching stories of connecting and bringing opportunities for life, education, and a better future to thousands of children.
To better understand the power of that connection, Nghe An Newspaper and Radio & Television had a conversation with Mr. Phan Sy Hien - Deputy Director of the Provincial Children's Protection Center; Mr. Ta Kim Cuong - Director of the Labor Relations and Corporate Culture Department of Luxshare ICT Nghe An Co., Ltd.; and MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hien - Hoan My Da Nang Hospital, on the occasion of the Month of Action for Children.

PV: The 2026 Children's Action Month in Nghe An ProvinceIt has now happened.with these chapterspractical and effectiveThe results are very impressive. As the person directly responsible for "designing" and implementing these programs, Mr. Phan Sy Hien, could you share the overall picture?
GrandfatherPhan Sy Hien:Following the directives of the Provincial Steering Committee for Children's Affairs, the Nghe An Children's Protection Fund actively mobilized organizations, businesses, and benevolent individuals to implement a series of gift-giving activities. As a result, we have donated 1,395 gifts with a total value of nearly 712,300,000 VND. A highlight of the campaign was the handover of playground equipment worth 80 million VND to Dien Quang Kindergarten and the donation of hundreds of bicycles and gifts to students in remote areas of Muong Xen, Chieu Luu, and Huu Kiem. The support of sponsoring units has provided practical assistance, from 350 towels for orphanages to sponsoring heart surgeries worth hundreds of millions of VND for child patients such as Ngo Tuan Kiet and Lo Tu Anh…

In addition, the program also pays special attention to 155 children with autism spectrum disorder and children at welfare centers such as SOS Vinh and the Provincial Social Work Center. These results not only help alleviate immediate difficulties but also open up opportunities for these children to pursue their dreams and change their lives. Organizations such as Blue Dragon, VinaCapital, Gladney, and Luxshare ICT Nghe An have been very active in supporting and assisting them.
Mr. Ta Kim Cuong:In conjunction with the Fund's initiative, Luxshare ICT Nghe An also directly donated hundreds of gifts in Nhon Mai, Tuong Duong, and especially 350 towels to children at shelters such as Betania, Tan Huong, and the 19/3 Center. For us, supporting disadvantaged children is not only a social responsibility but also a sincere expression of the feelings of our entire staff.
PV:The numbersRealunIt is both symbolic and precious. Besides financial resources, healthcare is also very valuable. BDoctor Nguyen Thanh HienPerhaps he understands this better than anyone else?

UncleDr. Nguyen Thanh Hien:I began my journey of screening and performing surgery on underprivileged children with heart disease in Nghe An province when I was a young doctor fresh out of medical school. This journey started around 2007-2008, in collaboration with VinaCapital and the Provincial Children's Protection Fund. For over a decade, what has kept me engaged hasn't been the reports, but the eyes. The bewildered eyes of children longing to run and play, the helpless eyes of their impoverished parents.
What I remember most is a surgery I performed five years ago on a five-year-old child in Ky Son who weighed only 7kg due to a large ventricular septal defect accompanied by severe pulmonary hypertension. At the time, the young mother could only cry because she couldn't speak Vietnamese clearly, and she didn't even have a few hundred thousand dong in her pocket. After a tense four-hour surgery, seeing the child's lips regain their color, I finally felt relieved. Two weeks later, the father walked to bring the surgical team a bag of upland rice and a bunch of wild bananas. That was a priceless gift, a testament to the "love" of the local people that kept my passion for my profession alive.
GrandfatherPhan Sy Hien:Dr. Hien's story reminded me of the case of Nguyen Thi Trung from Kim Bang. She was paralyzed in both legs from a young age, crawling until she was three. Her mother abandoned her, and she lived with her father and grandmother in poverty. Thanks to the Foundation's connection with Dr. Ngo Duc To and sponsor Thu Duong, after many years of persistent orthopedic surgery, a miracle happened: Trung can now stand and walk on her own and is currently learning nail art in Ho Chi Minh City. Witnessing a child go from "crawling" to "walking on her own two feet" and pursuing her dreams is the greatest meaning of the work we do.

PV: The reality is that Nghe An still has over 15,000 children in difficult circumstances and more than 116,000 children at risk of falling into such circumstances. Mr. Ta Kim Cuong, from the perspective of a donor, what do you see as the biggest challenge in providing sustainable support to these children?
Mr. Ta Kim Cuong:After collaborating with the Foundation, we realized that behind each situation lie very different support needs. For example, for severely disabled children at the 19/3 Center, daily necessities are more important than school supplies. But for students in mountainous areas like Muong Long II, support in the form of books and scholarship programs creates a lasting impact.
Besides material value, we believe that direct presence and care are also very important. When businesses take the time to visit and encourage children on occasions such as Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, International Children's Day, or Children's Action Month, the children will feel the love and support from the community. Sometimes, what they remember most is not the gift they received, but the feeling of being cared for, listened to, and having people by their side.

We were deeply concerned about the dreams of the children at Hien Luong Center: "I wish I could visit your company once." It's a very simple wish, but it shows that the children lack the practical experiences to become more confident. Therefore, at the beginning of 2026, we invited them to participate in a company event, allowing them to perform on a large stage in front of thousands of people. Some children hugged us and shared that it was their first time riding in a car, their first time standing on such a beautiful stage. That connection boosted their confidence.
Therefore, in our view, social responsibility towards children means providing support that meets the right needs, targets the right people, and stems from sincerity. Only then can these meaningful activities create sustainable value and have a lasting impact on the community.
UncleDr. Nguyen Thanh Hien:I completely agree with the need to "meet the right needs." In healthcare, the biggest challenge is reaching children in remote areas. Many families, due to poverty and fear of expense, hide their children at home, and by the time the heart disease is discovered, it's already too late, and the lung damage is irreversible. Funds can cover the surgery costs, and donors can provide gifts, but the travel, accommodation, and care expenses for their children remain a huge burden for them.

One of the things that worries me the most is that children in cities receive modern screenings right after birth, while children in mountainous areas do not have access to these services simply because they are born in remote locations.
PV: LHow do we create a smoothly coordinated "network" betweenQcommittee, bhospitals anddHow can businesses avoid overlooking cases like the one Dr. Hien just mentioned?
GrandfatherPhan Sy Hien:We define the Fund as a "bridge." The Fund's role is to accurately identify the right beneficiaries, use resources transparently and openly to build trust with donors. In reality, many cases require very large expenses, such as Ngo Tuan Kiet (198 million VND), Lo Tu Anh (122 million VND), or Pham Thi Ngoc Anh (111 million VND)... No single organization can bear the burden alone. We have to coordinate with many parties: VinaCapital, Understanding the Heart, Hoan My Hospital… Each party contributes a part. Businesses like Luxshare ICT can provide other essential gifts.
UncleDr. Nguyen Thanh Hien:We work together based on a single principle: "All for the safety and life of the child." The foundation goes door-to-door campaigning, local health authorities assist with paperwork, and we handle the professional aspects. When the children's best interests are prioritized, every process finds common ground.

Mr. Ta Kim Cuong:From a business perspective, I believe that to ensure no children in need of support are overlooked, the most important thing is to have close collaboration between all parties involved. Businesses are eager to participate, but often lack the resources to directly access or fully understand each specific situation.
Therefore, the role of the Children's Protection Fund is extremely important in surveying, verifying needs, and connecting resources. Healthcare facilities are the places to identify, professionally assess, and propose cases requiring urgent support. With a reliable and transparent point of contact, businesses will be more proactive in participating in supporting children, from treatment and education costs to other essential needs.
PV:My final question to all three guests is: What is the biggest message you would like to convey during the 2026 Children's Action Month?
UncleDr. Nguyen Thanh Hien:I urge parents to pay more attention to their children, take them for check-ups early if they notice any abnormalities, and not hesitate because of financial constraints, as there is always a helping hand from society. To my younger colleagues, I encourage you to be more dedicated, because saving a life is like sowing a seed for the future of our country.

Mr. Ta Kim Cuong:In honor of Children's Action Month, we hope that more businesses, organizations, and individuals will show concern for children, especially those in difficult circumstances, children with disabilities, orphans, or children in need of special support. Each business has its own way of contributing, suited to its conditions and objectives. The most important thing is not the material value of the support, but the care and affection sent to the children. When many hearts turn towards children, good things will spread more widely in the community.
GrandfatherPhan Sy Hien:I am truly grateful to all the agencies, units, businesses, organizations, philanthropists, and individuals who have consistently supported the Nghe An Provincial Children's Protection Fund throughout the years. Your sharing and compassion have provided opportunities for thousands of disadvantaged children in the province to receive medical treatment, attend school, and have a better future. A scholarship, a surgery, a bicycle, or simply timely support can change a child's life.

The achievements during this year's Children's Action Month are clear evidence of the strength of solidarity, responsibility, and compassion that the community has for children. During this year's Children's Action Month, I hope that the spirit of love and responsibility towards children will continue to spread even more strongly throughout society. So that every child is loved, protected, and given the opportunity to develop comprehensively, regardless of their circumstances. I believe that investing in children today is investing in the future of our homeland and country. Every act of sharing, big or small, can open a new door, helping children confidently pursue their dreams.
PV:Thank you to our guests for this heartfelt conversation. We hope these "compassionate hearts" will continue to connect so that no one can grow old.mewhich ones were left behind!
