List of subjects and exam formats
This is the first exam implementing the Ministry of Education and Training's regulation on adding a third subject to the 10th grade high school entrance exam. The selection of the third subject is decided by the Departments of Education and Training of each province and city.
Therefore, the entrance exam for 10th grade (general) in Hanoi for the 2025-2026 school year will have 3 subjects:Mathematics, LiteratureandForeign Languages(English, French, German, Japanese, Korean)
Regarding the exam format, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training:
Literature subject:The exam duration is 120 minutes, consisting of a reading comprehension section worth 4 points and a writing section worth 6 points.
Mathematics:The exam lasts 120 minutes and combines multiple-choice and essay questions. The essay section consists of 9 questions, accounting for 30% of the total score. The multiple-choice section has 12 questions, accounting for 70% of the total score.
Foreign Language:The exam lasts 60 minutes, is in multiple-choice format, and the knowledge tested is primarily from the 9th grade curriculum.
The Department of Education requires schools to organize review sessions for students based on the format and sample exam questions published in August 2024 so that students can familiarize themselves with the format and prepare for the exam.
The 2025 Hanoi Grade 10 entrance exam will take place over two days, June 7-8. On the first morning, candidates will take the Literature exam for 120 minutes, followed by the Foreign Language exam in the afternoon for 60 minutes. On the morning of June 8, candidates will only take the Mathematics exam, with a time limit of 120 minutes. The admission score will be the sum of the scores of the three subjects on a 10-point scale, without any weighting, plus any bonus or incentive points (if applicable).
