As of February 20th, nearly 45 provinces and cities have finalized the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam.
In the new regulations for secondary school admissions, the Ministry of Education and Training clearly stipulates that the entrance exam for grade 10 consists of two compulsory subjects, Mathematics and Literature, and a third subject (or a combined test) chosen by the Department of Education and Training.
The regulations also stipulate that provinces and cities may announce the third exam subject after the end of the first semester, but no later than March 31st each year. The content of the 10th grade entrance exam is based on the junior high school general education program, mainly focusing on the 9th grade.

The time allotted for the Literature exam is 120 minutes, Mathematics 90 minutes, the third subject 60 or 90 minutes, and the combined subject exam 90 or 120 minutes.

Among the localities, Ha Giang and Binh Thuan have chosen History and Geography as the third subject in the entrance exam for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year. Vinh Phuc has chosen a combined subject exam, while the remaining localities have chosen English.
Recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued a directive requesting localities to complete the announcement of enrollment plans for junior and senior high schools for the 2025-2026 school year by February so that students, teachers, and schools can be proactive.
