Moore Threads launches MTT AI Book: A laptop with a 12-core Arm chip that challenges Nvidia.
Moore Threads has just unveiled the MTT AI Book, equipped with a powerful 12-core Yangtze SoC and 50 TOPS NPU. This thin and light laptop runs on the iOS operating system and supports Windows via virtual machine.
Moore Threads, a chip manufacturer from China, officially introduced the MTT AI Book – a thin and light laptop using its own Arm chip. The highlight of the device lies in the MT1000 SoC (codename Yangtze), which integrates an NPU achieving 50 TOPS performance, directly competing with modern AI processing chips such as AMD Strix Point.
Hardware architecture and processing performance
The MTT AI Book boasts an impressive configuration with a 12-core CPU clocked at 2.65 GHz, coupled with 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM and a 1 TB SSD. Graphics are handled by the company's proprietary MUSA architecture. However, real-world testing shows that its pure performance still lags significantly behind current top-tier chips.

Specifically, the machine's Geekbench score reached 1,127 in single-core and 7,420 in multi-core. These figures are only comparable to mainstream processors like the Ryzen 3 7320U or older Intel Core Ultra 3. This level of performance is sufficient for basic office and AI tasks but cannot be compared to high-end mobile workstations.
Software and operating system compatibility
Unlike the direct Windows-on-Arm approach taken by Nvidia N1X or Qualcomm Snapdragon X, Moore Threads chose a different path for its product. The MTT AI Book comes pre-installed with the AIOS operating system (a Linux platform) and supports users running Windows through a virtual machine environment.

This difference makes the MTT AI Book more of a high-tech experimental device than a mass-market commercial solution for mainstream users needing absolute Windows compatibility. Meanwhile, competitors like Nvidia are developing the N1 series chips with the expectation of delivering graphics performance equivalent to the RTX 5070 on the Windows-on-Arm platform.
Premium design and detailed specifications
In terms of appearance, the device is crafted from 6-series aluminum alloy and weighs only 1.5 kg, reminiscent of the MacBook Air's design. The 14-inch OLED screen with 2.8K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate is a major plus, providing a sharp visual experience. Below is a table of the device's main specifications:
| Parameter | Detail |
|---|---|
| System-on-a-Chip (SoC) | Yangtze (Arm MT1000) 12 cores |
| Clock speed | 2.65 GHz |
| NPU performance | 50 TOPS |
| RAM | 32 GB LPDDR5X-7500 |
| Storage | 1 TB SSD |
| Screen | 14-inch OLED 2.8K, 120Hz |
| Weight | 1.5 kg |
Priced at 9,999 RMB (approximately $1,447), the MTT AI Book is an ambitious effort by China to achieve self-sufficiency in semiconductor technology. While its CPU performance is modest, the power of its 50 TOPS NPU indicates Moore Threads' strong focus on future mobile AI computing.
