Believing that the quarry's blasting was damaging trees and crops, a man in Tru Son commune (Do Luong district) entered the quarry area, vandalized property, and used weapons to injure a worker.

On March 4th, Mr. Le Xuan Tho, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tru Son commune (Do Luong district), stated that the police have launched an investigation into the case of a quarry worker in the area who was seriously injured by a machete attack. "The conflict stemmed from the quarry blasting operations breaking some of the man's acacia trees," Mr. Tho said.

Previously, Toan Thanh Co., Ltd. also filed a complaint against Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nga (62 years old, Hamlet 4, Tru Son Commune) for acts of property destruction and intentional infliction of injury. According to the complaint, on the morning of March 1st, Mr. Nga entered the company's quarrying area, threatened workers with a knife, and then threw some equipment and machinery from the mountain, causing damage. That afternoon, Mr. Nga continued to cause trouble, using a knife to injure a worker in the quarry's drilling team. The company also reported that in October 2023, Mr. Nga had also entered the quarry area while workers were preparing to detonate explosives, threatening them with a knife and cutting the detonators.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nga admitted to using a knife to injure a quarry worker and stated that the reason stemmed from his frustration over acacia trees being broken by dynamite blasting during stone mining. “My acacia forest is right next to the quarry. They blasted and broke some trees. I filed a complaint with the authorities, but it hasn't been resolved. Because I was so frustrated, I did this,” Mr. Nga said, adding that the acacia plantation was land his family had reclaimed many years ago and later purchased from the commune's People's Committee.

Meanwhile, a representative from the quarry stated that the area where Mr. Nga was planting acacia trees had been licensed to the company for quarrying. “It’s true that the blasting process affected some acacia trees, and we offered him high compensation, but Mr. Nga refused, demanding more. When his demands weren’t met, he frequently came to cause trouble. Now, all the quarry workers are afraid of him assaulting them and don’t dare come to work anymore,” the quarry representative said.

According to the land administration officer of Tru Son commune, Mr. Nga's acacia forest area is land under the management of the commune's People's Committee, and was later granted a permit to Toan Thanh Co., Ltd. for stone quarrying. "Mr. Nga planted acacia trees on that land without any permits. Although the land has been licensed to the company, it's impossible to compensate for the assets on the land to clear the site, so the land hasn't been handed over to the company yet," the land administration officer said.

The case is still being investigated by the police./.
