Closing the nearly 600 pages of the book, and shutting my eyes, strangely enough, so many whispers arose within me. The 52 portraits not only depicted 52 physiques, 52 personalities, 52 sources of national pride; but I also saw the majestic image of my homeland.

Khép lại gần 600 trang sách, và nhắm mắt lại, thật kỳ lạ là trong tôi dậy lên bao nhiêu thì thầm. 52 bức chân dung không chỉ phác họa 52 vóc dáng, 52 tính cách, 52 niềm tự hào của xứ sở; mà tôi còn thấy lồng lộng bóng dáng quê hương. Ở đó có gió Lào và nắng chan rát bỏng, có cát khô và bão giông, có vị mặn của nhút, vị chua của cà, có râm ran chè xanh, có những đêm trăng “theo phường đi nghe hát”, có dòng Lam “vắt kiệt lòng mình” mà xanh trong, chảy mát miền ví, giặm ân tình, có những “ước hẹn còn lưa” lặn trong gừng cay, muối mặn… Phải rồi, chính những trầm tích linh thiêng ẩn giấu dưới lớp vỏ xù xì của đất mẹ đã nuôi dưỡng nên những con người trên vùng đất ấy. Chính những mạch nguồn thầm kín đã len lỏi vào từng đời sống, từng nhân cách, để xây đắp nên những con người mang đậm bản sắc của xứ sở: Can trường, bộc trực, giàu nghĩa tình, tài hoa và lãng mạn.
Cuốn sách "People from Nghe An" chắc chắn sẽ níu giữ bạn một lần nữa quay lại lời mở đầu, sau khi khép lại trang cuối, vì những dòng gửi gắm vô cùng thấm thía của Phó Chủ tịch Quốc hội Lê Minh Hoan: “Đây là cuốn sách để đọc chậm, nghĩ sâu, để lòng mình mềm ra mà cũng thẳng hơn, bền hơn. Để mai này khi kể về quê hương, ta có thể nói rằng: Có một mùa mang tên “mùa nhân cách”, nở ra từ những trang sách như thế này”.

Cách ông nói về “mùa nhân cách”, về sự “nở ra” là cách người ta nói về ánh sáng, nói về những đóa hoa, nói về vẻ đẹp rạng rỡ, mà ở đây là phẩm giá, cốt cách của những con người tiêu biểu cho vùng đất mà họ được sinh ra, được nuôi dưỡng bằng những hạt lúa, củ khoai nảy mầm từ gió Lào rát bỏng.
Và chính xác 52 người Nghệ thời đương đại được “vẽ chân dung” trong cuốn sách này, họ đã sống, cống hiến và để lại những giá trị vượt thời gian, góp phần tạo nên diện mạo văn hóa, lịch sử đất nước. Họ đã sống một cuộc đời kiêu hãnh, một cuộc đời để cho quê hương niềm tự hào. Là Bác Hồ của chúng ta mà không một người Việt nào không ơn Người, là nhà cách mạng Hồ Tùng Mậu, nhà ngoại giao xuất sắc Nguyễn Duy Trinh, là “tướng Hai Mạnh” Chu Huy Mân, Bộ trưởng - “vị tướng không quân hàm” Trần Quốc Hoàn…; là các Giáo sư: Cao Xuân Huy, Đặng Thai Mai, Nguyễn Xiển, Nguyễn Thúc Hào, Nguyễn Tài Cẩn, Nguyễn Cảnh Toàn, Tạ Quang Bửu, Hoàng Đình Cầu, Đặng Ngọc Long…; là các học giả, chính khách, chính trị gia, nhà giáo, nhà báo, nhà kinh tế, những doanh nhân, viện sĩ, nhà khoa học và những văn nghệ sĩ tài hoa, nổi danh như danh họa Nguyễn Tư Nghiêm, nhà văn Hoàng Trung Thông, Nguyễn Minh Châu, Sơn Tùng, Nguyễn Bùi Vợi, Trần Hữu Thung, Hoàng Trần Cương, Thạch Quỳ, các nhạc sĩ Nguyễn Văn Tý, Hồng Đăng, Nguyễn Tài Tuệ, Nguyễn Trọng Tạo; các doanh nhân Thái Hương, Lê Thanh Thản...
Tất cả như đang bước ra từ những nét phác họa kia để trò chuyện về tình yêu quê luôn chảy trong huyết quản; về bao nhiêu hoài bão và khát vọng lớn lên từ củ sắn, củ khoai; về tháng ngày gian lao chống chọi với thiên tai, dịch bệnh, để từ đó tự mình biết nương vào thiên nhiên mà ứng xử, trưởng thành; về sự tàn phá của những cuộc chiến nhưng không thể nào tàn phá được những trái tim kiên trung một lòng theo cách mạng…
Those"People from Nghe An" ấy như đang trò chuyện với chúng ta, nói về sự “ngẩng đầu” không bao giờ khuất phục trước cường quyền, áp bức; nói với chúng ta về một hàng rào râm bụt đỏ hoa đất quê, về sông Lam sóng sánh trăng vàng trong tiếng hát của người chèo đò dọc, với một lời ru của bà, của mẹ.
They shared their feelings so that we can move forward today, confidently and proudly. That on this harsh land, people are not only courageous, straightforward, and always upholding their ideals, but also full of romance, talent, imbued with lyricism and rich in compassion.
They are the "seed sowers," they are the "flames" that contribute to the common light, illuminating the character, integrity, intelligence, and compassion of the people of Nghe An, as insightfully observed by Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan.
The book's editor is journalist Nguyen Nhu Khoi, formerly the Director and Editor-in-Chief of Nghe An Radio and Television Station - NTV (now Nghe An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station), and currently a member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council.
Driven by his deep respect and pride in his journalistic career and his interactions with many people from Nghe An province, he harbored a strong desire to..."To share with everyone the beauty of the people of Nghe An and how to spread those positive values."Several programs on NTV that he previously directed, as well as on the website dbndnghean.vn, have partly helped journalist Nguyen Nhu Khoi realize that aspiration. Later, with the support of friends and colleagues, a knowledgeable and dedicated editorial board came together to brainstorm and create the book "People of Nghe An," a precious gift to readers this meaningful autumn.
