Two of them, Tran Thanh Trung (a 5th grade student) and Tran Thu Huong (a 1st grade student), were siblings, while Tran Viet Hung (a 4th grade student) was their cousin.
It is known that the place where the children drowned was a lake near the Dien Quang Commune People's Committee, which was under construction by the water supply and drainage company to provide clean water to the area.
For the time being, the local authorities have provided 5 million VND per case to help families with funeral arrangements for the children.
* In Tan Ky district:On the evening of May 29th, when Truong Thi Huyen (14 years old), residing in Hoang Trang hamlet, Tan Xuan commune, did not return home after tending her buffaloes, her family immediately went searching and learned that she had slipped and fallen while letting the buffaloes drink water at Vuc Tron stream.
According to Ms. Truong Thi Khoai, a relative of the victim, at around 6 PM on May 29th, after waiting a long time and not seeing her granddaughter return, the family suspected something bad had happened and went searching. Locals say that it rained heavily a few days ago, causing the stream to rise, with some areas very deep and rocky. The area where the incident occurred has a water depth of about 4-5 meters, surrounded by dense vegetation, and there are no houses nearby.
It is known that Huyen is a 7th-grade student, very well-behaved and polite. Her family is struggling financially; her mother works far away, so she lives with her maternal grandmother.
Following the tragic incident, the victim was brought home for burial according to custom, and the authorities and local people promptly visited and offered condolences to the family to help them overcome their grief.
* Previously, in Yen Thanh district:At approximately 1:30 PM on May 29th, IBui Thi Thu Trang - a student in class 12 A6 at Yen Thanh 2 High School,Trang and two female friends went to Ly Thanh commune to play. While passing the Dau Ly water regulating sluice on the main river system flowing from Do Luong district to Quynh Luu, Trang went down to wash her hands at the riverbank and slipped into the fast-flowing water. At that time, many villagers who were working in the fields rushed to help and rescued the two girls, but Trang was swept away by the water.
Upon receiving the report, from the afternoon of May 29th, the Yen Thanh District Military Command mobilized over 100 militia members from five communes (Ly Thanh, Nam Thanh, Lien Thanh, Bac Thanh, and Xuan Thanh) along with two motorboats to search for the body of the unfortunate victim. Due to the deep river and strong currents, by 10 PM that day, Trang's body had still not been found. Rescue efforts are still ongoing.
Bui Thi Thu Trang is known to be an excellent student, actively participating in all school activities. In 11th grade, she won an Encouragement Award in History at the provincial-level excellent student competition.
Right at the beginning of summer, drowning incidents are occurring frequently. This is something that families, authorities, and local organizations need to work harder on in managing children and implementing effective drowning prevention measures.
