A woman 'set a love trap' to swindle billions from 3 young men
A woman in Da Nang used a fake name and created romantic relationships with three young men to borrow money and then appropriate it.
On the afternoon of May 24, after the first instance trial, the People's Court of Da Nang City sentenced defendant Lu Thi Thu Thuy (born in 1986, residing in Hoa Xuan ward, Cam Le district) to 11 years in prison for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
According to the indictment, Lu Thi Thu Thuy used the fake name "Hoang Ha Vi", claiming to be an English teacher to create affection and swindle money from many young people.
Specifically, since March 2020, Mr. Nguyen Van D. (31 years old, in Quang Nam) met Thuy through friends and developed feelings for her.
From then on, Thuy continuously told untrue stories to borrow money from Mr. D. for a total of more than 31 million VND. Thuy spent all of this money for personal use.
Also at this time, Thuy used social media to lie that she would introduce to Mr. Do Van T. (32 years old, in Quang Nam) a friend named Huynh Ngoc Hong from Kon Tum, with a Facebook account named "Huynh Hong".
Then, Thuy used the account "Huynh Hong" to say intimate words, create a love relationship with Mr. T. and then used many different reasons to borrow money from Mr. T.
From March to September 2020, Thuy borrowed the name "Huynh Hong" and gave false reasons to borrow nearly 300 million VND from Mr. T.
The entire amount of money Mr. T. transferred to the account numbers provided by "Huynh Hong" was then transferred by Thuy to an account under the name of Lu Thi Thu Thuy.
In addition, during the above mentioned period, Thuy said that she could not reissue the bank card, so Mr. T. gave Thuy a bank card containing 252.2 million VND and 20.7 million VND in cash. After that, Thuy withdrew all the money in the account to spend.
In February 2022, through social networks, Thuy met and had a relationship with Mr. Tran Cong H. (38 years old, in Da Nang City). Using the same old trick, Thuy lied that she was studying at a political school in Hanoi. Next, Thuy made up many reasons to borrow more than 500 million VND from Mr. H.
According to the investigation agency, the total amount of money Thuy appropriated from the 3 victims was more than 1.1 billion VND.
In this case, Thuy committed a crime with the aggravating circumstance of committing the crime twice or more. In court, Thuy confessed her crime.
After deliberation, the Trial Panel sentenced Lu Thi Thu Thuy to 11 years in prison and ordered the defendant to continue to compensate the amount of money she had appropriated from the victims.
