(Baonghean.vn) - Commenting ahead of the 2018 U23 Asian Championship quarter-final match between Vietnam U23 and Iraq U23, former coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh suggested that coach Park Hang Seo should boldly make a few changes to the attacking line.

Watching the performance of Coach Park Hang Seo's players at the U23 Asian Championship, Coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh remarked: "Coach Park Hang Seo has significantly improved the defensive capabilities of the defenders. Even that defensive style doesn't require too much effort from the Vietnam U23 team; there are fewer challenges and fewer fouls than against their opponents."

Regarding the U23 Iraq team, Vietnam's opponent in the U23 Asian Championship quarter-final match taking place tonight (January 20th), Coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh assessed: “Overall, West Asian teams all have similar playing styles, so Iraq's style will be quite similar to Syria's. However, in terms of skill level, Iraqi football is at a higher level than Syria's. The U23 Iraq team in this year's tournament is also stronger than the U23 Syria team; the U23 Iraq team has individuals who can create breakthroughs, while U23 Syria lacks such players.”

A veteran coach of Vietnamese football shared: “As a spectator, I think the Vietnam U23 team needs to focus intensely on this match. They should use their best players, both physically and professionally, to achieve a successful game. More than anyone else, Coach Park Hang Seo understands his players, their form, and their fitness levels. The biggest challenge for Coach Park Hang Seo's team is physical recovery. I believe in Coach Park Hang Seo. I believe he will have a strategy against Iraq U23, provided the players are in good physical condition.”

Furthermore, Mr. Vinh also offered some advice: “It’s necessary to create a certain level of enthusiasm among the players. Of course, the players shouldn’t be impatient and should simply follow Coach Park Hang Seo’s intentions. The U23 Vietnam team might still play with the old tactics, but they should still dare to attack and will succeed if we counter-attack quickly when the opponent is complacent. The attacking line needs really good counter-attacking players. In my opinion, there are still a few players who, when in possession of the ball, are hesitant, either trying to find a way to shoot or coordinating with teammates and making runs.”

"The Vietnam U23 team could even consider taking the match to a penalty shootout. But to do that, they first need to recover their physical fitness after the group stage matches," concluded former coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh.
