(Baonghean.vn) - In the mountainous commune of Binh Son, Anh Son district of Nghe An, in addition to farming, people also have the job of recruiting fighting buffaloes, bringing high income to the households doing the job, especially those who have been passionate for decades about buying and caring for fighting buffaloes.
Binh Son Commune, Anh Son District is a purely agricultural commune, strongly developing sugarcane, rice and livestock farming. In particular, the profession of selecting, caring for and trading fighting buffaloes brings high income to dozens of households here. The profession of recruiting fighting buffaloes in Binh Son has developed through traders who specialize in finding and buying buffaloes and hiring households to care for and raise them. From "selected" buffaloes priced at 30 - 50 million VND, after a period of care and training to become "flying buffaloes", they can be sold for over 100 million VND, some even sell for up to 450 million VND. According to the buffalo breeder in Binh Son, to choose a satisfactory "product" requires a lot of experience and patience, and diligence in caring for the animal. In particular, a fighting buffalo must be aggressive, have unique "fighting moves", and quickly defeat its opponent in fights like "flying buffalo", "eye-gouging buffalo"... He entered the profession by chance when his sworn brother, a native of Do Son (Hai Phong), came to Nghe An to buy fighting buffaloes. Mr. Thong has been attached to and passionate about the profession of raising and trading fighting buffaloes for more than 20 years. Photo: Thanh PhucAccording to the households that take care of fighting buffaloes in Binh Son, every day the buffaloes must be taken out of the barn, exercised, and given more physical activity. After that, the buffaloes need to be bathed and fed properly. The buffaloes' food is mainly elephant grass and sugarcane tops. The people who raise fighting buffaloes must always monitor the health of the buffaloes, especially on cold, rainy days or when there are often epidemics in the herd, in order to promptly treat them. Photo: Hoai ThuAfter buying the buffalo, Mr. Thong brought it back and selected households in the commune that could take care of the buffalo, and neighboring communes hired them to raise buffalo for 1-1.5 million VND/month/head. For example, Mr. Nguyen Van San's household (Tien Ky, Tan Ky) adopted 6 fighting buffaloes for Mr. Thong. In addition to being paid nearly 10 million VND/month, Mr. San also took advantage of the buffalo's plowing and pulling power and received "hot bonuses" when the buffaloes were well raised and sold for a high price. "Currently, I am sending buffaloes to 15 households to raise, with at least 1 buffalo, and many households with up to 5-6 buffaloes. I pay them monthly, creating jobs and helping them earn more income," Mr. Thong shared. Photo: Thanh PhucThanks to the connection with the buffalo fighting trade, the local people of Binh Son sell their buffaloes at a "better price" than buffalo meat. "A buffalo weighs 7-8 quintals, if sold for meat, it will only fetch about 40-45 million VND. But if it meets the criteria for selling fighting buffaloes, the price will be 3-4 times higher, even 5 times higher. There are fighting buffaloes that cost nearly half a billion VND. Currently, the whole Binh Son commune has about 70 households raising fighting buffaloes. Photo: Hoai Thu
