Mourinho criticizes his players for being 'childish and immature' after drawing with Leicester

The Man Utd coach said his team wasted too many chances when they took the lead and had one more player, but still failed to get the three points in the end.

"It should have been an easy win," Jose Mourinho told Sky Sports. "We did everything to win, but United had kids in the box, both in their own half and the opposition half. Mistake after mistake, and we were punished by losing two points at the end."

Mourinho and his team were behind on the evening of December 23, but came back thanks to a double from Juan Mata. Man Utd led for more than 30 minutes in the final match, and played with an extra man from the 73rd minute, but were equalized in the fourth minute of injury time in the second half.

"We didn't win because we wasted too many chances. The scoring opportunities slipped past our players' toes like they were playing a joke," the Portuguese coach did not hesitate to criticize his players. "Man Utd not only missed scoring opportunities, but also missed controlling the ball. I had the feeling that those were childish moments of losing the ball."

The Red Devils conceded the decisive goal when Chris Smalling was injured and had to lie on the field. "There was no maturity in defending at the last minute when Smalling was in trouble. My players reacted too slowly, and they did not adjust quickly enough to adapt to Leicester's attack," the 54-year-old coach said angrily.

When asked by reporters why Man Utd let the victory slip away, Mourinho replied simply: "I don't know". He then added: "What else can I say when the attack keeps refusing to score more goals, and the defense makes a silly mistake".

The former Chelsea coach also revealed that he told his players at half-time, "This is an easy match." The second half was quite as Mourinho predicted when Man Utd pressed the field and scored a goal to increase the score. However, they could not maintain the result until the end of the match.
