Manchester United are looking to strengthen their left-back position during the January 2025 transfer window.

Nuno Mendes responds as Man Utd submit offer to sign £34m PSG defender | Football | Metro News

According to reports from the British media, Manchester United have submitted an offer to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to sign star player Nuno Mendes, who is considered their priority transfer target in the near future.

Manchester United are currently struggling at left-back, with Luke Shaw frequently experiencing fitness issues and Tyrell Malacia failing to live up to expectations after returning from injury. With the need for a stable left-back, Nuno Mendes is seen as a potential option, especially given his dissatisfaction with his situation at PSG.

Nuno Mendes, the 22-year-old Portuguese player, is currently unhappy with his salary and treatment at PSG. Although his contract runs until 2026, Mendes has expressed his desire to leave Parc des Princes in the January transfer window or in the summer of 2025. He has a close relationship with coach Ruben Amorim, who gave Mendes his opportunities at Sporting Lisbon and helped him develop into a talented defender.

Although Manchester United are keen to sign Mendes, the deal could be financially challenging. After spending heavily in the 2024 summer transfer window, Man United will have to carefully consider their financial capabilities. PSG, despite Mendes' unhappiness, have no plans to sell him yet, and the transfer fee could not be cheap.

Besides Nuno Mendes, MU are also considering other options such as David Raum, the left-back of RB Leipzig. The Red Devils previously negotiated to sign Raum in the summer of 2024 but the deal fell through, and he could still be a viable alternative.

Adding a quality left-back would be a crucial part of Ruben Amorim's strategy to strengthen the squad, as Manchester United continue to seek stability this season.
