The Thanh Chuong District Police are currently holding Nguyen Cong Thai (born in 1995) and Ngo Van Thinh (born in 1991), both residing in Hamlet 7, Thanh Van Commune, Thanh Chuong District, under criminal detention to investigate their involvement in the illegal buying and selling of fireworks.
Earlier, at around 11:00 AM on December 22nd, in Thanh Van commune, Thanh Chuong district, the Thanh Chuong District Police, in coordination with the Customs Control Team (Thanh Thuy Border Gate Customs Sub-department), caught Thai and Thinh red-handed while selling two bundles of firecrackers, each containing 36 firecrackers, to a man.
During an emergency search of the two suspects' residences, the police seized an additional 44 firework packages, each containing 36 firecrackers, of foreign origin. The total weight of the seized fireworks was 100 kg.
At the police station, Thai and Thinh confessed that they bought the firecrackers from the North and brought them home to hide, intending to sell them retail for profit near Tet (Lunar New Year). Each firecracker pack was purchased for 600,000 VND and sold for 800,000 VND.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Hung, Deputy Head of Thanh Chuong District Police, from mid-November 2018 to the present, the unit has detected and arrested 17 cases involving 25 individuals for fireworks-related crimes, seizing 250 kg of various types of fireworks.
