Record rain of 1,739mm in Hue, singer Long Nhat's house deeply flooded
The rainfall at Bach Ma peak was the highest in Vietnam's history, causing severe flooding in most of Hue City. Singer Long Nhat shared the scene of him and his father struggling in a villa without electricity.
Rainfall 1,739mm: A record number in history
According to the October 29 report of the Department of Hydrometeorology, the rainfall measured in 24 hours at Bach Ma peak, Hue city, reached 1,739 mm. This is the highest number ever recorded in Vietnam's history, almost equal to the average annual rainfall of the whole country (about 1,400-2,400 mm).
This figure is also considered the second largest in the world, only after the record of 1,825 mm recorded at a French monitoring station in the Indian Ocean in January 1966.
Hue submerged in water
The historic downpour has caused severe flooding in 32 out of 40 communes and wards in Hue City since October 26. The water level is generally 1-2 meters, some low-lying areas are 3-4 meters deep, severely affecting people's lives.
Singer Long Nhat: 'Sitting next to my father in the dark'
Sharing from his villa on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Hue City, singer Long Nhat said he was with his father on the second floor during the power outage. "I was sitting next to my father in the dark. We have experienced big floods before, I thought the floods in 2020 and 2023 were big, but this year it will be even bigger!", he said.
The male singer said that although the rain stopped on the morning of October 29 and the water receded slowly, in the afternoon the rain poured down heavily, causing the water to rise again, submerging the entire ground floor. He shared: "The water rose so quickly that it almost submerged my mother's altar. Luckily, we were quick to move my father, my mother's altar and some important belongings upstairs."
Sympathy for people in flood-affected areas
According to Long Nhat, his family and many other people in Hue have experience in dealing with floods and have prepared food to survive. However, he still feels sad when looking at the working-class neighborhood behind his house, where many small traders and workers are submerged in water.
"This situation is miserable for the people of Hue in particular and the Central region in general. This year, Hue has been hit so hard! Behind me is a working-class neighborhood... submerged in a vast sea of water. It is very sad and heartbreaking," he expressed.
The male singer said that what he wishes most at the moment is for the rain to stop to avoid "flood on flood". He also affirmed that after the water recedes, he will join hands with everyone to overcome the consequences and help those in difficult circumstances in the locality.
