According to a preliminary report from the Nghe An Irrigation Department, due to the impact ofTyphoon No. 2On June 13th, heavy rains flooded 3,463 hectares of summer-autumn rice crops, including 1,292 hectares of newly planted rice, concentrated in the districts of Do Luong and Yen Thanh…

The rain also flooded 368 hectares of vegetable crops, and 1,900 hectares of sesame crops were affected in terms of yield. 71 hectares of aquaculture areas were flooded (mainly freshwater aquaculture). Heavy rains caused landslides in irrigation canals in some localities and resulted in the collapse of several houses in Ky Son district.

In particular, heavy rains caused two fishing rafts belonging to fishermen from Thanh Hoa province to drift south of Me Island in the waters off Nghe An province. A fishing vessel from Quang Nam province discovered and rescued one fisherman, who was then handed over to the Nghe An border guard force. Currently, one raft and one fisherman are still missing at sea, and the Nghe An border guard force is actively searching for them.

A representative from the Nghe An Irrigation Department stated: To minimize damage during the rainy season and floods, the Irrigation Department recommends that localities and relevant sectors review and deploy forces to control and guide traffic in flooded and isolated areas. They should also prepare personnel, materials, and equipment to address incidents and ensure smooth traffic flow on major transportation routes when heavy rains occur.

Local authorities should inspect and review plans to ensure the safety of reservoirs and downstream areas, especially small hydropower reservoirs and critical irrigation reservoirs. They should deploy permanent forces to operate, regulate, and be ready to handle any potential situations. They should closely monitor, forecast, and provide timely warnings and information on rainfall, flood developments, and the risk of flash floods and landslides to proactively implement response measures.
