Flooding and electrical short circuits caused the death of 9,000 chickens at a farm in Vinh City.
Prolonged heavy rain caused rising water levels, flooding a chicken farm in Nghi An commune (Vinh City) and causing an electrical short circuit, resulting in the death of 9,000 chickens from suffocation.
According to Mr. Chu Van Mai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghi An commune (Vinh City), on the morning of September 23, the chicken farm of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Huy in Hoa Hop hamlet, Nghi An commune, was flooded. While he was moving the chickens to higher ground, a short circuit occurred. Because the coop was enclosed, the chickens suffocated and died in large numbers within just 10 minutes.
According to reports, Huy's chicken farm has a capacity of 10,000 chickens, and currently 9,000 have died, each weighing approximately 2.2-2.5 kg. The total loss is about 25 tons of chicken, estimated at around 1.5 billion VND.
Currently, local authorities and organizations are mobilizing manpower to butcher the chickens, appealing to the community to help Huy salvage whatever money he can. The price for the rescued chickens is 40-50,000 VND/kg.
