Penalty for motorbikes with auxiliary lights
Mr. NQV, residing in Vinh city, asked: How much is the fine for arbitrarily installing additional lights on a motorbike?
Reply:
Installing additional lighting that is not in accordance with the original manufacturer's design is considered a violation of the law and can result in different penalties, depending on each specific case as follows:

According to Point c, Clause 1, Article 14 of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, vehicle drivers can be fined from VND 400,000 to VND 600,000 if they commit the following violations:
- Driving a vehicle without low or high beam lights, or with lights that are ineffective and do not meet design standards;
- Control the vehicle to install lights towards the rear of the vehicle.
In addition, according to Point b, Clause 8, Article 32 of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, there is also a regulation on fines from VND 4,000,000 to VND 6,000,000 for individuals, from VND 8,000,000 to VND 12,000,000 for organizations that are motorbike owners that arbitrarily change the frame, engine, shape, size, or characteristics of the vehicle (including adding or changing the lighting system in violation of regulations).
Thus, according to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, if a driver arbitrarily installs a projector-beam auxiliary light for a motorbike, he or she may be fined from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND. At the same time, the vehicle owner may be fined from 4,000,000 VND to 6,000,000 VND for an individual, and from 8,000,000 VND to 12,000,000 VND for an organization.
