If you want a lasting love, should you choose a man with a beard?

Australian experts believe that men with well-groomed beards are more masculine and know how to take better care of their women.

Do you think appearance doesn't matter in your relationship? Do you believe that men with beards look sloppy and less attractive? The truth is, relationships are more likely to last if your partner has a long, charming beard that is neatly trimmed.

This is the conclusion reached by scientists at the University of Queensland in Australia.

Accordingly, researchers conducted an experiment with 8,520 women. They were asked to view images of men and then rate them, ranking the most physically attractive men from highest to lowest.

Reportedly, these male photographs are all meticulously "edited," from clean-shaven faces to lush, full beards. The cheekbones and chin are also altered to enhance or diminish masculinity.

Participants in the study suggested that average-sized, less angular faces are less attractive than angular faces.

In addition, extremely masculine or extremely feminine faces are considered the most attractive.

Bearded faces are considered attractive, especially if the beard is short and neat. Meanwhile, a beard that covers more of the face suggests a potential for a long-term relationship.

Dr. Barnaby Dixson, the lead researcher, wrote in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology: "Our findings suggest that men with more closed faces reveal a greater likelihood of possessing more male hormones."

A 2008 study by Northumbria University also showed that women are more attracted to men with beards than to those with clean-shaven faces or scraggly beards.

Therefore, experts conclude that the density of facial hair is directly related to a woman's first impression. Sometimes, a man who is too clean-shaven can make women feel wary and apprehensive about a relationship.

While a slightly bushy but well-groomed beard can reveal a man's attentiveness and self-care, it will likely lead him to take even better care of his woman.

The study was published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology.
