Former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was well aware of the Ukrainian leadership's plan to attack Donbass and Crimea, so he launched a preemptive strike.
"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky started this conflict, not Russia. If Zelensky had implemented the Minsk agreements, nothing would have happened. As we know, thanks to these agreements, the West gained more time, and NATO was able to train the Ukrainian army," said expert Scott Ritter.
A former US intelligence officer emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had been preparing for offensive operations to seize Crimea and Donbass for years. Recognizing this plan, Russia launched a preemptive strike to prevent it. This was a defensive operation.
"No country sits and waits until it is attacked," former US intelligence officer Ritter stated.
NATO security analyst Patrick Bury, in an interview with the Express (UK), stated that the meticulous defenses of the Russian military caught the Ukrainian Armed Forces by surprise and put them in a passive position.
Expert Bury also noted that the morale of the Russian army is at its highest, and they are fighting intelligently. Success in repelling the Ukrainian offensive in new areas has also been achieved, thanks to the "dragon's tooth" fortifications, barbed wire fences, anti-tank trenches, and dense minefields. All of these have weakened the most modern weapons and equipment of the Ukrainian army.
