The US is preparing to provide Ukraine with a $200 million arms package.
(Baonghean.vn) - The Biden administration is expected to announce a new arms package for Ukraine next week, despite the chaotic political crisis in Congress.
According to Reuters, the new aid package for Ukraine allows the administration of President Joe Biden to send weapons, supplies, and ammunition, despite the fact that the temporary spending bill passed by the House of Representatives excluded aid to Kyiv from the list of items.
President Joe Biden has asked Congress to approve an additional $24 billion for Ukraine – something that supporters of Kyiv, both Republicans and Democrats, hope could be part of a budget spending bill. This request from President Biden is still pending.
However, the Pentagon still has approximately $5.4 billion remaining, after discovering an error due to an "accounting mistake" that overestimated the value of weapons shipped to Ukraine.
Officials said details of the next arms shipment are still being finalized and will be announced on October 11 at the 16th meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group in Brussels, Belgium, where security support will be a central topic.
This latest US aid package to Ukraine is expected to be worth approximately $200 million, including ammunition and other weapons. President Biden has pledged to add more weapons stockpiles to send to Kyiv.
While US officials continue to provide aid to Ukraine, according to RT, Americans are feeling "bitter" about it.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on October 5th showed that only 41% of respondents agreed that the U.S. government "should provide weapons to Ukraine," while 35% said "disagree" and the rest were "unsure."
These figures mark a sharp decline from a previous Reuters poll conducted in June, which showed 65% of respondents supported continuing to arm Ukraine.
