The US unveils a 100-dollar coin made of solid gold.
The U.S. Mint has just unveiled a new $100 coin made of pure gold, featuring the Statue of Liberty as depicted by an African American woman.
The $100 coin was produced to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Mint. One side of the coin features a profile portrait of the Statue of Liberty, depicted as an African-American woman wearing a crown of stars. The sides bear the dates: 1972, the founding year of the Mint, and 2017, the minting year. The other side depicts an eagle with outstretched wings, along with the face value of $100. The coin is scheduled for official release on April 6th.
