The US acknowledges the existence of biological research facilities in Ukraine.
(Baonghean.vn) - US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland acknowledged the existence of biological research facilities in Ukraine, while emphasizing that Kyiv and Washington are currently working together to prevent documents stored there from falling into the hands of the Russian military.
During a hearing before the U.S. Senate, Nuland was asked whether there were chemical or biological weapons in the country.UkraineRegarding the question of whether or not to answer, the diplomat replied: "Ukraine has biological research facilities. We are concerned that the Russian military may be trying to gain control of them, so we are coordinating with the Ukrainian side to prevent any research documents from falling into the hands of the Russian military."

The Russian Ministry of Defense previously held a seminar in which it announced that the US had spent more than $200 million to maintain the operation of biological laboratories in Ukraine, a country participating in the US military biological program. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that, given the reality of US military biological activities in Ukraine, the Russian Federation does not rule out initiating a consultation mechanism under the Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention (BTWC).
Commenting on reports concerning US-funded biological laboratories in Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian urged Washington to clarify its activities regarding the militarization of biology both domestically and internationally.
