Washington has frozen the assets of businessman Oleg Deripaska in the United States. It is likely that among the frozen assets is his mansion located in New York's Upper East Side, according to sources from the U.S. Treasury Department cited by the New York Post.

According to the newspaper, representatives from the US Treasury Department are negotiating with the businessman about halting activities related to assets in Europe to avoid the risk of sanctions.
The New York Post reported that Deripaska purchased the New York property for $42.5 million in 2008. Representatives for the businessman declined to comment on the information.On April 6, the US government imposed sanctions on Deripaska and the companies he controls, including Rusal, Russia's only primary aluminum producer. Under US regulations, individuals placed on the sanctions list have their assets frozen in the United States, and US citizens are prohibited from conducting any business with them.
