The US is putting pressure on the EU regarding 'Nord Stream 2'.
The pressure from US sanctions is affecting Denmark's and the European Union's policies on Nord Stream 2, said Gerhard Schroeder, Chairman of the Board of Nord Stream 2 AG.
At the same time, he emphasized that Washington is pursuing "not just friendly motives."
"...First of all, we have to think that this kind of business is bad. The American partners have made it clear that more than ever, they want to export LNG to the European market," Schroeder added in his speech at the working breakfast during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
He noted that Copenhagen's policy contradicts existing European law and hinders the provision of sustainable fuels.
Mr. Schröder also expressed hope that after the Danish elections conclude, an opportunity will arise for a constructive dialogue on this issue.
In addition, the chairman of the board of Nord Stream 2 AG stated that the pipeline would be built despite the challenging project conditions, while also criticizing the changes made to the EU Gas Directive.
