The Trump administration has activated an emergency provision in the Arms Export Control Act to expedite billions of dollars in arms sales to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and Jordan. This decision allows large defense contracts to bypass normal congressional oversight.

Enhancing the combat capabilities of the UAE.

Among partner nations, the UAE received the most diverse range of contracts. The largest deal, worth approximately $4.5 billion, included advanced radar equipment and air defense systems. According to the US State Department, the provision of these items will enhance the UAE's ability to counter current and future threats in the region, while also providing strategic benefits to the United States.

Another contract worth $644 million for the UAE includes 1,500 small-diameter bombs and extensive upgrade packages for its F-16 fighter jet fleet. Additionally, the US has proposed selling advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM) with a total value of $1.22 billion.

Modernizing defense lines in Kuwait and Jordan.

Besides the UAE, Kuwait is the country that received the largest bid in this round. The US announced a proposal to sell missile defense and low-altitude air defense radar systems to Kuwait worth up to $8 billion. This is an important step to strengthen the Gulf nation's security infrastructure in the face of geopolitical changes.

For Jordan, the US administration announced a smaller-scale deal worth approximately $70 million. This contract focuses on providing technical support for existing aircraft and supplying necessary ammunition. The application of an emergency mechanism shortens the approval time, ensuring that the equipment is delivered to strategic allies in the Middle East as soon as possible.
