The newspaper also wrote that Russia has made considerable progress in developing ground-deployed intermediate-range missiles, and that this appears to violate the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).
"The US administration believes that Russia is increasingly producing missiles to support its flight testing program, raising concerns that the Kremlin will sooner or later put them into service," the newspaper quoted its own sources as saying.
On Wednesday, it was reported that the heads of two House committees, the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee Mac Thornberry and the Chairman of the Intelligence Committee Nunes Devin, sent a letter to President Obama expressing their shared concerns and calling for sanctions against Russia, including military action in response to Russia's alleged violations of the INF treaty.
In the letter, the lawmakers noted that Russia's testing of a "ground-deployed medium-range cruise missile" was a violation of the INF Treaty.
