According to RIA Novosti, the list published by the US Treasury Department shows that Washington has imposed sanctions on six Russian individuals and legal entities.

All individuals and entities listed were placed on the sanctions list as part of the fight against terrorism.

However, Russia is not on the list of 185 countries whose imports the US government applies customs duties on the principle of “reciprocity”. In his speech on retaliatory tariffs on April 2 (Washington time), US President Donald Trump showed reporters the list of tariffs.

Accordingly, Washington will impose a 27% tariff on goods from Kazakhstan, which previously imposed a 54% tariff on US products, a 31% tariff on goods from Moldova (which imposed a 61% tariff on the US), and a 10% tariff has been applied to goods from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (all of which imposed a 10% tariff on the US).

In addition, duties will be imposed on goods from Afghanistan - 10%, Brazil - 10%, UK - 10%, Israel - 17%, Iraq - 39%, Iran - 10%, Saudi Arabia - 10%, Syria - 41%, Türkiye - 10%, South Africa - 30%.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that 28,595 sanctions have been imposed on individuals and legal entities from Russia - a number many times larger than those of all other countries combined. According to the Russian president, these restrictive measures represent a mechanism of systematic strategic pressure on Moscow, so even if they are eased, competitors will find other ways to "make things difficult".

Russia has repeatedly stressed that it will stand up to the sanctions pressure that hostile states began imposing on it years ago and continue to increase. And even in the West, there are frequent voices claiming that the restrictions are ineffective.

In August 2024, Russian exports to the US fell from $295.3 million in July to $84.4 million. According to US authorities, this is the lowest figure since January 1993, when it was $47.4 million.

Overall, in 2024, the volume of Russian goods imported into the US will reach $3 billion, compared to $4.57 billion in 2023 and $14.44 billion in 2022. This decrease is due to US sanctions and trade restrictions imposed on Moscow due to the special military operation in Ukraine.
