The US wants to hold indirect Russia-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia.
President Trump's special envoy said the U.S. wants to hold indirect talks between Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia.
According to RIA Novosti, US President's special envoy Keith Kellogg, in an interview with American journalist Glenn Beck, said that the US intends to hold "indirect talks" in Saudi Arabia between representatives of Russia and Ukraine to understand each side's conditions for a complete ceasefire.
Mr. Kellogg explained: "We brought what we called a technical team into the indirect negotiations in Saudi Arabia, where both sides were involved, they were received in separate rooms. And basically we would say, 'Okay, what are your terms?', and then turn to the other side and ask, 'What are your terms?'"
According to Special Envoy Kellogg, this "shuttle diplomacy" aims to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire, which he believes would be the first step toward ending the conflict in Ukraine.
On March 18, the Russian and US presidents held a telephone conversation lasting approximately two hours. Both sides responded positively to the idea of the conflict's parties jointly refraining from attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days and issuing corresponding directives to their militaries.
In addition, President Putin and President Trump agreed to immediately begin technical talks on establishing a "ceasefire in the Black Sea, a complete ceasefire and lasting peace."
According to a statement by Russian leader's assistant Yuri Ushakov, Russian-American talks will take place on March 24 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On the Russian side, Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs, and Sergei Beseda, Advisor to the Director of the Federal Security Service, will participate.
