The US points out 'unacceptable' mistakes related to Russia.
(Baonghean.vn) - In the event of successful negotiations on security guarantees, the West appears to be risking recreating Russia's exclusive sphere of influence in the Eurasian region, US Colonel Wes Martin wrote in an article for the National Interest magazine.

The author of the article notes that Moscow's initiative is aimed at protecting its own security; however, the expert believes it could significantly increase its influence over the aforementioned intercontinental region.
"These demands appear to be made to protect Moscow, but accepting them could lead to the West abandoning the former Soviet states and recreating Russia's exclusive sphere of influence from the Black Sea and Baltic to the Pacific. This is unacceptable and must be rejected," Martin stated. Instead, the officer proposed supporting Ukraine in carrying out military reforms and providing financial aid.
Earlier in a major year-end press conference, Russian President Putin reiterated that the US was deploying missiles near Russia's borders, but Moscow was not doing this near the US border, so he saw no reason to demand "not deploy any offensive systems near our home."
Last week, Russia released draft security agreements with the United States and NATO member states. Specifically, the documents propose provisions for mutual security guarantees in Europe, refraining from deploying intermediate- and short-range missiles within each other's range, and abandoning further NATO expansion to include former Soviet republics.
