The Pentagon has officially confirmed plans for the US to withdraw troops from Germany. Accordingly, thousands of soldiers will be ordered to move out of the European country within the next 6 to 12 months. This is a strategic decision that has attracted significant international attention, especially in the context of internal divisions within NATO.

According to RIA Novosti on May 2nd, the official Pentagon spokesperson, Sean Parnell, confirmed the plan to RIA Novosti. The US troop withdrawal from Germany is expected to take 6 to 12 months to complete, with a total of 5,000 soldiers subject to relocation.

Responding to a request from RIA Novosti, Parnell stated: "The Defense Minister has ordered the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 troops from Germany. This decision was made after a thorough analysis of the ministry's troop deployment in Europe. It was driven by battlefield requirements as well as the situation on the ground."

Earlier, Reuters reported that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had announced a new troop withdrawal. NewsNation also cited sources close to the matter to clarify the move. According to these sources, the decision to withdraw troops stemmed from the fact that America's European allies "did not demonstrate the level of proactive engagement" that US President Donald Trump had expected.

The possibility of reducing US troops in Germany was left open by President Trump on April 23rd. Just two days earlier, he had sharply criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, stemming from Berlin's stance on the Iran conflict. The US president even stated that the German leader completely misunderstood what he was saying.

On April 1st, President Trump announced that he was seriously considering withdrawing the United States from NATO. This statement came shortly after the alliance refused to support Washington in its campaign in Iran.

Trump called the allies' response to the request for coordination an "unforgettable stain." The American leader also emphasized that the US does not need the help of NATO countries, as these nations are doing everything they can to avoid providing assistance.

It is known that there are currently about 38,000 American troops stationed in Germany. This latest US troop withdrawal from Germany will significantly reduce the scale of Washington's military presence in the region.
