According to RIA Novosti on June 4, US President's special envoy Keith Kellogg said in an interview with Fox News that the US Senate is ready to pass a bill on imposing new sanctions against Russia.

“I spoke with Senator Lindsey Graham last weekend and I think the senators are ready to act. They call it the ‘Russia Sanctions Act of 2025,’ and I think Senator Graham is prepared to impose them. These sanctions will be very tough,” said special envoy Keith Kellogg.

Earlier on June 2, Senator Graham also announced that he was looking to reach new restrictions on Russia before the G7 summit, which will be held in Canada from June 15-17.

Meanwhile, last week, US President Donald Trump stressed that he had no intention of imposing new restrictions on Russia as negotiations to find a solution to the Ukraine conflict continued.

On April 1, a bill proposed by Senator Graham called the “Russia Sanctions Act of 2025” was introduced in the US Senate. The document provides for the introduction of restrictions and other measures against Moscow, if Russia refuses to negotiate a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine or violates a possible future agreement.

In particular, the proposal imposes a 500% tariff on goods imported into the US from countries that buy oil, petroleum products, natural gas and uranium from Russia. In addition, the document stipulates a ban on US citizens from participating in activities to buy Russian debt securities.

On June 2, a second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine was held in Türkiye. The meeting lasted more than an hour at the Chiragan Palace in Istanbul. There, the sides exchanged memoranda on resolving the conflict. Moscow and Kiev also agreed to a large-scale prisoner exchange and agreed to a two- or three-day ceasefire in separate areas of the front to allow for the collection of dead.
